Napoleonic Board Game
« on: June 02, 2016, 01:42:18 PM »
Hey guys I am making a Board game based in the Napoleonic Era. Essentially it follows many rules like Napoleon:Total War but incorporates other made up rules.
I will post the progress as it goes

Thanks

Pikemen and Gatling guns didn't feature much in the Napoleonic wars
(especially Gatling guns, which weren't invented till about 40 years after the wars finished)

I know this. However the game advances through different ages much like Age of Empires, Gatlings guns are one of the last Army types you can get in the game. 1 only get one. Also Pikemen were used up until the end of the Napoleonic Era. They are used in the game as Anti-Cavalry and do not require Gunpowder obviously so it is a cheaper form of soldier

Pike's were really only carried by troops who protected regimental standards and were more of a ceremonial item. They certainly didn't wear armour.
Also, line infantry were the standard troops they weren't considered light infantry.
Below is a link to my blog. It's the place where I write uninteresting things about little toy soldiers. I do this because I refuse to grow up and behave like an adult.

For the context of the game, "Heavy means more elite" while light means cheaper and less effective.
There are many historical inaccuracies in this board game. The fun part is you don't have to follow exact history to make a good game. I was a history major, I realize there were no War elephants in 1800's due to cannons but there are in the game. just like you can buy samurai mercenaries, or build Big Ben in the Napoleonic Era and it was really finished in 1860. The fun part is you can create your own histories. Without getting too crazy naturally
