Scroll Clarification wanted
« on: 11 June 2016, 11:08:35 PM »
How exactly do Scrolls work? The rules on page 59/60 are (to me) unclear.

Would I be correct in assuming the following:

1. All scrolls are a one-use items.
2. Spells already know are cast immediately (at the assumed casting value).
3. Spells not already know must be cast as normal.
4. Wizards can sell Scrolls containing spells they do not know for 100g

I know the voices aren't real .... but they have such FASCINATING ideas!

Scrolls are 1 time use items, with the exception of Ivory Scrolls.

Lets say I have a Necromancer, who knows the spell Raise Zombie, and I attain a scroll of Raise Zombie. If I cast Raise Zombie, and should fail, I can instead expend the Scroll to successfully cast the spell. You could hypothetically just use the scroll right away, but it is redundant to not at least roll to see if you successfully cast the spell in the first place.

If I have an Enchanter that does NOT know the spell Raise Zombie, then I may expend the scroll, to successfully cast Raise Zombie, however I of course do not get to roll beforehand, to see if I would successfully cast the spell.

Scrolls are just 1 time use items that let the user (assuming they are a spellcaster) successfully cast a spell indefinitely.

If you have further questions on rules, there is a thread at the top of this page that is pinned, and Joe (the creator of the game) often answers questions on the rules.

I do hope you enjoyed reading whatever it is I have typed, I likely put some thought into it, and appreciate when others look into my brain and go, "Huh, okay"

There's some clarifications on scrolls in the FAQ, and more in the thread that Clockwork mentioned.

Thanks for that guys.

On the sunbelt of the Rules Thread I can't see anything that would let me make a new topic for my question.

Is it just 1 long thread, and you just "reply" putting your question at the bottom??

Yep, the same way you "replied" in this thread, you "reply" in that one. It is a weird term for it, but yes.
