Latest project: RAFM Great Race of Yith figs

Latest painting effort, finishing up a trio of RAFM's Great Race of Yith minis from their Call of Cthulhu range. 







I've had some of these for years now, although the third was a more recent casting.  Pretty much identical except for their weight, one of them is noticeably lighter than the other two.  Oh, the days of lead-alloy minis. 







Always liked RAFM's older takes on the Mythos critters and characters (the newer stuff leaves me a bit cold) but let's be honest for a minute - some of Lovecraft's monsters are a little goofy looking.  The Yithians are a good example, especially painted to match the old Astounding cover art.  Still, they are more creative alien designs than some.  No Star Trek TNG "human with thing stuck on forehead" look for these things.

I love the shading and your palette.
This said ....I think if you changed the eyes ...to be more reptile...or alien ...
they would look MUCH better.
A bit to goggly eye'd to me.
Excellent work though.

I agree, they are kind of silly looking, but I was trying to recreate the classic Astounding cover art as closely as possible, and they were pretty googly there too.  They're also remarkably adept at turning pages on decidedly human-styled books with those big crab claws.  



If I were doing them with less of an eye toward a specific look I'd probably try for either a dead glossy black or maybe a tree frog- or octopus-inspired style.
