Toy find - Submarine turned Space ship?
« on: 17 August 2016, 10:17:09 PM »
I stumbled upon this while at Toys R' Us getting some birthday gifts for my niece.  I didn't pick one up but figured I'd point it out to you guys.

It's called the Animal Planet Submarine (playset?)

Looks really well sized for a 28mm-esque barge or launch...particularly if you added some wings to it.  Has a fold down cargo door and some expandable arms.

Someone's already gone GI Joe with it:

Currently around $30 but I'll be keeping an eye out if these go on cheap sale.

That is awesome. The style would be great for 40k, raygun gothic or steampunk.  Just remove a few propellers and you're good to go.

I will also be keeping an eye out for a sale.  Thanks for the heads up!

Yep, definitely large enough for a decent size freighter/drop ship.  It's probably 14" long or so?

Is it possible to get a photo alongside some figures?

I didn't pick one up, but this shows the scale reasonably well:

Looks like the figures in the box are along the old GI Joe size standard (what, 3.5" or so?)

Based on the fig, My guess would be 5 inches tall by 11 inches long.  That's really just an estimation though. Looks like the side hatch is going to be at least 75mm tall.

He gave that beauty to Cobra?!? Outrageous!  >:(

Sorry, I thought they were well known, or I would have had one and put it up. Actually, was on sale for awhile; kinda kicking myself I didn't get one then.

So many toy, so little room left in the house... :'(

The first image reminded me (not aware of the model's actual scale) of the space/air ships of the original Flash Gordon TV-serial...
