Space ship for my space war (Stargrave terrain)
« on: 13 July 2021, 11:01:36 PM »
There's a line of plastic toys called Space Union, with the tagline "Space ships for your space war." I bought a couple of their sets online for under $20 each to convert into terrain for Stargrave and other skirmish games. Here's one of them painted as the Kaye MacGuoyo, a small freighter:

More pics and some backstory in this post on my blog, Super Galactic Dreadnought.

If you're curious, this toy looks more like a helicarrier when it's pristine in the box:

Note that these toys all come with several smaller vehicles (land and air) that can also be incorporated into your sci-fi games:
.
More pics in another post on my blog.

I still have a second (different) ship to paint, and I think I will go in a different direction--more bright colors and less weathering--think Chris Foss. I'm looking forward to showing y'all once it's done.

Appear to be available in Walmart locally.  Guess I'm going shopping.  Needed to do a toy aisle dive anyway, that one scenario that calls for four biggish spaceships was a bit too much for my collection.

Re:  Hollow figs - aside from the walker do the others sit flat?  If so, could you you take two of them and glue them belly-to-belly to make a single ship?

Great conversion fodder find, that! 8)

It looks as if this was indeed a SHIELD helicarrier knockoff that was rebranded. The little toys look to be a good basis for smaller vehicles too btw.

You did a good job on the conversion and painting; a very playable piece, this. Is that an opening rear ramp?

Love the addition of those dials from a big safe on top of the rotors ;)

Miniatures you say? Well I too, like to live dangerously...

That would work gre4at for 15mm! I have been wanting something like that and felt I would have to build something. Now I can just buy and paint!

Thanks, everyone!

Both the rear ramp and the portside hatch on this ship can open and close.

The smaller vessels that come with it are not entirely flat on the bottom, but with some plasticard or chipboard, you could fill the gaps and attach a couple of them belly-to-belly.
