Latest project: Frost Giant Princess
« on: 21 August 2016, 12:07:29 AM »
Latest thing off the workbench, a Reaper Bones Frost Giant Princess.

A big model, standing about 3" tall.

I've also painted the metal version, but for once the Bones version has just as good detailing and at a fraction of the cost.

Comes with an integral base, which I've stuck on a 60mm for extra stability.

Went with a pale skin tone rather than the blue many people use for frost giants, in part because I wanted to have the thigh tattoos stand out better.

Good for D&D, Pathfinder, or as a custom monster encounter in Frostgrave.

Very nice work - the mask is especially great; a nice contrast to the rest of the colors.

what a great miniature. And I agree about the mask - gives me lovely Majora's Mask vibes. :--)

Very nice work on the furs and leather.
I've got the "bones" version as well for OGAM and agree about the detailing. Well worth the money.

Thanks, all.  Definitely one of my favorite Derek Schubert sculpts, although he's done many good ones for Reaper over the years.  His Pathfinder "Iconic Female Barbarian" makes a nice stablemate for this model due to similar sculpting styles.  Really wish I'd picked up the other Icingstead Frost Giants before they were discontinued, but sadly that boat has sailed and they're way too expensive on the secondary market ($75 for the P65 version on ebay is just criminal).

The metal version of Svetlana is actually reasonably priced for its size at about $20, although the Bones one is obviously a better bargain at $8.  Both are very sensibly cast, with only the spear & attached hand separate and a good solid socket for them to fit into.  Reaper usually does top-notch work when it comes to easy, sturdy assembly.

Lovely! The colour of the face mask really contrasts well with the natural colours of the rest of the model.

Lovely job on a great mini! (Always thought that the bigger Bones stuff held the detail of the originals better.)

Arguably true, and the larger models tend to have fewer problems with Bendy Weapon Syndrome too.  The detail quality does seem to be improving with time and experience.  The 2nd KS figs appear to be better detailed than the 1st KS batch, and even they've improved a little since production transferred over to the US from China.  The current Bones plastics may be cast in a slightly different formula than it used to be, seems a little firmer and it's definitely a different color.
