Searching for Dwarves...
« on: August 21, 2025, 03:58:36 AM »
I'm looking for the Grenadier Models Dwarves pictured in the attached images. I'm not after the originals in box, as I'm sure the price would make my eyes water, but modern day castings would be fine. Can someone direct me to a manufacturer or retailer who sells them? My late father had this set and I remember him painting them when I was a youth back in the very early 1980's. I thought it would be cool to find them again and paint 'em up in his memory.
Thanks,
John.

Used to have that set! They’re around, and not that expensive even when found in a box. I’ve almost bought them a few times out of nostalgia.

Cool! Just a bit more expensive for me to get hold of down in Tasmania, but I will have to keep a look out for a set closer to home.

Thanks very much for the link. Did Mirilton ever have a UK distributor for these?

I'm not sure Mirilton ever had a UK distributor. I wanted a couple of bear riders to give me enough for a unit and I had to get them from Italy. I did this about a month before Brexit, so avoided import taxes, but it's been at least that long since they've only sold direct.

I have a load of Grenadier figures, but don't remember those. I'm sure they'll bring back a lot of memories as you paint them :)

I think it was complicated  when Grenadier went under. Mirlton I think, picked up the European licence and have been slowly re-releasing a lot of the older Grenadier stuff. In the UK EM4, Forlorn Hope Games and Battle zone miniatures all seem to sell bits and pieces of old Grenadier ranges but only the later stuff sculpted by Mark Copplestone or Nick Lund like Future warriors and Fantasy warriors stuff. I'm sure there is probably some legal reason Mirlton don't have a UK stockist.

I still think those are wonderful miniatures.  I got two sets of them in about 1981 or so (still have them), and the one with the upraised sword was the first miniature of which I thought I did a credible job painting.  The guy with the hefty spear also features in the first season of the TV show "Stranger Things".

Currently listed as "DL2003 Dwarves Troop" on Mirliton's site under the "Dragon Lords 25mm" Fantasy category.

Oh wow, I didn’t realize they were still in production!!! Many thanks for that link.

Nostalgia runs deep on this set - I got them in 1982 with my copy of basic D&D, the colourful dragon cover, before the yellow banding.
