In any case, the formula I concocted was designed in the first place to represent Europeans in hot climes, it's just that due to laziness and habit I now tend to use it for all Europeans, wherever they are. All I need to do is take the red out of the process for a less hot and bothered look really.

I'm okay where I'm living, but my heart goes out to our Victorian folks who have lost so much in love ones, friends, homes etc.

Arg, the Konigsberg main guns were still operating when there were engaging the monitors. Practically all the gun crews were killed in the engagement.

But with the naked eye, they look different, and perfectly fine for the most part, so I'm not sure what to do about that. Which is more important - how they look in photos, or how they look in real life? 

most of all you should be happy with your miniatures! and they are very well painted and look very impressive (I don't think one can argue with that), I've only pointed that detail out because it's something of a personal taste of mine (didn't want to sound that negative, it's only a detail and not the overall look of the miniatures)!

and it's true, most Europeans tend to be very reddish after a couple of days in the tropics! so the skin tones are in line with the theatre of operations!

That's the baby that will be taking on the Elke. She's the monitor HMS Wye, at least for now. She will also star in a future North African desert epic as the Italian gunboat Valentino Rossi.
