This is a modern topic which doesn't seem to match the date range of '45 to 2000, but I didn't think "near future" fit the bill.
This is a nice story and actually takes place near I did my armour training in Base Gagetown, New Brunswick, Canada. The fun comment out it for me is the young man's Dad saying he "...would rather his son be passionate about gardening instead of guns, but appreciates the focus the hobby gives his son." LOL
Not sure how accurate these are, but they look pretty good. These vehicles are "after my time". In the second picture in the article, there is a close up of two of his models, which I've posted below. I'm not sure if the turret on the one on the left matches anything, but this is all pretty good work, nonetheless.
