War of 1812 Miniature Questions
« on: 11 February 2017, 03:58:21 PM »
Having recently got into the war of 1812 by buying from Brigade Games I am looking to pad out my forces as the current exchange rate is far too steep...my question is, what plastic kits are useable?

Also are Perry Miniatures the right size to mix in, I own no Perry Napoleonics so can't tell myself.

Any Perry/non-perry recommendations would be great.

If you have Americans already, then Perrys and Victrix would make a good British Force.  Perry has Foot and Light Dragoons, Victrix have Foot, Highlanders and Artillery in plastic.

Forgot to say, I collect British/Canadian.

Which box sets specifically would be accurate?

The Waterloo sets, but the Light Dragoons and Artillery have a whole range of options.

Stovepipe shakos (Warlord Peninsula British, Perry British) will be good for the beginning of the war, and may still be useful for some militia units even after the regulars and fencibles have changed to the Belgic shako ('Waterloo' British).
Cheers

Hi, it is nice to see another gamer interested in the War of 1812. Welcome.

I suggest not restricting yourself to plastic for British/Canadian figures (there are no plastic Canadian figures available) and for that matter Americans.  To that end I highly recommend Knuckleduster War of 1812 (pewter) figures, which can be purchased through Caliver Books in the U.K. (I note that you are in Glasgow).  KD has the largest section of War of 1812 figures, so, you can find most of the figures that you need there.

Let us know how you are progressing.

P.S. I too really like Brigade games figures the War of 1812 sculpted by Paul Hicks.

For plastics British, I have used Victrix a pain to assemble but a greater variety of figures.

My Americans are Foundry which you can still get if you email them direct.

Other metals for British and Canadians are Old Glory.

I found Knuckleduster too big and didn't really fit with Victrix/Perry plastics.

Victory is guaranteed to the last man standing, but always remember those whom you stepped on to get there!!

Only problem is they are not on their web page you have to email direct for a list. Then email your order.

A reference pic would be nice, and thank yuo for the offer but i'm thinking I should paint what I have first lol

Also I bought this fellow with my order, would he be a suitable British officer or too early? What are the main differences between say, peninsular and waterloo officer uniforms?

Kommando, the War of 1812 falls right on the cusp of the 1812 uniform changes for British officers. So you can use either Waterloo period or Peninsula period British officers for 1813 onwards.

The big changes are these:

Peninsula British officers - bicorne hat and long coat tails.
Waterloo British officers - shako and short coat turnbacks.
