Some hand-me-down tools are treasures.

You are absolutely right there. Its one of those proven facts that they don't make things like they used to.

We did have a shed full of his old tools which would be irreplaceable now... until some bastards broke in and stole a load. >:( :'(

The bastard knew what he was stealing.

Oh bad show! Thankfully we have a load of my grandads tools that were left in his shed. Including the enormous and frankly disturbing Calipers of Mysterious Purpose.

Hammers, I just had a look in our local Wilkinsons store - they have little brushes in packs of three (steel, brass and nylon) for £1.29. I would be happy to get you a pack and post them out to you if you'd like. Or fetch them to BLAM! if you're still heading over. PM me if you're interested.  :)

You are to kind for words. I think however that I will try to find something locally. Unfortunately I will not make it to BLAM this year. A new job, a growing son and baby on its way, a wife... well, as you can tell there is no end to the miseries keeping me away. ;)

I was taught to use a wire brush to clean files when serving my time as a fitter. Never heard of chalk being used to clean a file. I have heard of it being using to prevent the file from scoring the surface too deeply when doing precision work. But I suppose if there was oil trapped in with the filings, the chalk would dry it out allowing it to be cleaned easier. Oil would be there because that is another substance used to prevent surface scoring during precision filing.

That's a shame, but I guess a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do!

Not to worry though. If you can't find anything locally, let me know and I'll pick some up for you.
