New Warlord Games Napoleonics previews!
« on: 01 June 2017, 02:11:46 AM »
New heavy British Cavalry and union Brigade cavalry plastic kits coming out, also new metal higlanders on foot.

Not a big cavalry fan myself so the first two are not of interest to me personally.

The Scots aren't too bad though...something slightly 'off' bout them though.

Everyone's thoughts?

It's always risky to judge figures on the basis of a picture alone but with the caveat that I haven't seen the castings in the flesh, I'd say the Highlanders' arms MAY be too big and too thick compared to the rest of the figures.

Yes! its the officer especially who looks odd, also the heads seem to be small in comparison to the rest or is that just me?

Nope, that kind off jumped out at me too, they look fine when you first look at them and then they just don't seem right, maybe just the photo tho. :)

Not a great fan of the weapon arm limitations of Warlord's cavalry sets. I particularly despise the lancer pack for the near useless (to me) alternate lance arm so half have to be sword armed anyway. I'd rather there were 12 of the same arm in the pack. Perhaps it's a fault of their sprue designer compared to other companies. *shrug* These two packs seem to have the same setup.

Personally won't buy these as I have no need, but the arm thing balks me at buying any more Warlord cavalry. The cav looks passable otherwise for my basic painting skills. If it wasn't for the arms I'd look at how they could be morphed into some other nation, but admit to being too lazy to even check that.

Good for them for continuing to churn out product though :)

Not bad. Cavalry aren't up to the standard of the Perry plastic cavalry (judging by the Pics) and I prefer the Vitrix Highlanders. But when the Warlord half price sprue sales roll around I could certainly see myself buying some.

Something about the bonnets on the scots looks strange to me but can't quite put my finger on it.

Oh dear!

Agree that they don't look right which is a shame as I do like the dynamism of the poses.

Cheers,

Paul

First reaction:  Mounted.. only two horse varieties?   And they seem to have odd body angles for the riders.

Second reaction:  No such thing as a 'Highlanders Regiment' there were 'Highland' Regiments though. And why are they all 'charging'?

Given that Victrix already make terrific Highland Regiment figures, that work out very cheap, I don't see these having a huge market. There is also something just slightly off about the proportions which makes me dubious about mixing them in with my Perrys and Victrix figures.

Can only think the body positions are to allow a thrusting straight ahead to the right of the horses neck pose and a slash down to the left attack across the horses neck pose.

I think that might be so they can charge in with the Scots Greys or something :)
