100 Years War Crossbowmen compatibility?
« on: 20 July 2017, 12:59:36 PM »
I have quite a few 15mm figures from Mirliton's Condotta range and am looking to add some figure manufacturer/pose diversity. I also have some randome packs of crossbowmen from Donnington and Corvus Belli's 100 Year War ranges. Could someone tell me if they think the HYW crossbowmen would be more later period (say 1400-14500) and thus compatible with the Mirliton Condotta range as far as kit and appearance are concerned (size wise they all match up well):

Donnington Crossbowmen

As a side bar, does anyone know how prevalent this butterfly pavise was? Very cool looking.

Thanks for your input!

Butterfly shaped / heart shaped pavises were not uncommon in the second half of the 15th century, perhaps not so wide but why not.

The guys on the 2nd pic look 14th century; not shocking for the early 15th century (or even a bit later if you say they are still wearing some old kit...) :D

Those on the 3rd pic look like 15th century Italians, I would avoid some of them (round hat, helmet shape, padded shoulders...) in an HYW context in France but they could probably well fight in Italy at this time.

IMHO if you're not too picky it's not a scandal to mix them all in a very late HYW context including some foreign mercenaries. Or better, in the Italian Wars.
