Help with resin and metal casting of model
« on: 09 May 2017, 07:28:48 AM »
Hi guys

I am looking for a contact that can make a resin version, and then some metal casts.

Any help is welcome!

Well that's bleedin' lovely.  8) 8) 8)

You'll need pressure casting for that, otherwise I'd offer my services.

I'd recommend Ian over at Fenris Games for the resin and Pete at the Mouldmaker for the metal, they're the best at what they do as far as I'm concerned. I use them both and I very happy with what they do for me.  :)

Well you were rather vague with your OP, and there's more hobbyists here than makers.

Good luck with it.

Excuse me! I meant my reply was very late!! Not yours

It seems the model can not be vulcanised .... so I have contacted a cold silicone mould maker.

Hope he can help :o)

Oh okay, apologies for the misunderstanding.  ;)

So you're getting it cast in resin first?

Yes, that seems to be the way to go.

Have you had models cast this way? And do you have any examples of how that turned out?

I used Chris at Macroscosm as I wanted to try resin and the results were excellent.  He uses Lancaster Casting to produce the resin masters and then casts metal if needed from those.

I had very few miniatures cast, although I have gone this route for components for terrain, but I was able to cast the resin masters myself for those. Tbh the last mini which faced this I ended up just getting cast in resin as it saved the money and time in getting the metal casting mould done. You might try this if it's a short run, resin casting moulds wear out much quicker than the metal equivalent though, so if it's a long run metal may prove more economical. The results were excellent.
