Does anyone make Thuggee cultists at 20-28mm?
« on: 13 September 2008, 06:39:44 PM »
I'm wanting to put together a pulpy India adventure, and am wondering if anyone makes something that is/looks like/could be used as Thugee cultists a la Temple of Doom.

Hasbro has made some action figures that do a good job in terms of capturing the costume and appearance for their Indiana Jones line, but bear in mind these are action figures and not miniatures:

I guess that, for the first one, one could use some Lord of the Rings figures, whatever that group is that rides the giant elephants.  But I don't remember exactly what they look like, so I'm not sure if they'd work.
Any ideas?

Check out THE CROGAN ADVENTURES, a historical adventure graphic novel series available from your local bookstore or comic shop (or, of course, Amazon).  I make 'em.

I think that a good proxy could be the servants of Set, sold by Old glory.

Games Workshop Haradrim would be a good starting point.  They are plastic, so reasonably priced and easy to cut away any bits you don't like:

The Chaos in Cairo Servants of Set are pretty good as well:

And poke around the West Wind Gothic Horror collection, you might find something you like there (in particular, check out the Mummy sets for cultists):

Given what real Thugs looked like...

...  I think some of Foundry's Darkest Africa Baluchis, or generic Indian types from other ranges might fit the bill if we're not being too fussy. They didn't wear a uniform, you see. Otherwise you would spot them coming, which kind of defeats the object.

Well, I'm not actually looking to portray them as Thugees; I just liked the look of that uniformed Indian secret-society tha the movie gave off.

I really appreciate all of the tips - thanks!

Especially the Haradrim Watchers of Karna should come close to the guy at the top - AND they're metal  ;)

For something like the guy with the whip, try looking at the Corsairs of Umbar - a head-swap with a guy with a turban, and you're quite close...?

Those Baluchis are some of the best miniatures Foundry has ever done. I have a set and I love them.

Any number of historical lines that do Indian armies from mogals to colonials have a number of suitable figures. Scale Creep even has a set of villiens from Gunga Din. Tiger minis has some Indian & Moro figures that would work too. Baggy pants, head raps, curved knifes & krisses.

I love mine, best 22$ I have spent on miniatures in a LONG time.
