?Mycenaean cavalry? Sure, go on then.
« on: 12 October 2017, 08:50:20 PM »

I have just finished bodging/converting a unit of mediocre Myrmidon cavalry. Full info on the blog, but a couple of pictures below.

Can I say cute? Nice conversion and painting (of 6mm!).

However, you could use the left over bits for Levies (zombies!) in any of the Ancient Period lists.

Talk about splendid painting! Those guys really pop, they look really good, there Nic
You go to war with the figures you have, not the figures you wish you had!

Very cool. And you even found a historical source for them. I just painted up some 28mm versions. But was not really sure if there was any evidence for cavalry being used.

I liked seeing the ancient drawing of the Minoan horseman.

My understanding is that horses were too small to be ridden in the Bronze Age. Hence the prevalence of chariot warfare.

Interesting. All of the history I've seen states that the Myceneans weren't actually riding their horses but using them as pack animals or for chariots. Fun conversion though!

Indeed, that was my general understanding as well, but I suggest you read Kelder's 2012 article (linked in the blog post).
