Further questions;
Would Foundry's FPW French gun team fit in with later colonial troops?

Dear "a_i_42"  ;)
I'm not a specialist of artillery matters so I really don't know : I just think they are nice figures and highly usable in a "fictiounous" context  :)
Cool, I think these are what I'll go with then. I would've bought Brigades, but I'm looking for a smaller gun than the 75.

By the way, what do you mean by "later" ?
Not entirely sure, but for the sake or argument lets go for 1880-1900. Ish. ::)

I know you are not too keen on Askary miniatures, but it makes a nice pair of mountain guns : the colonial artillery were often old "recycled" pieces.
I'll bear that in mind. I didn't know if there was a standard gun or, as you say, they simply used old pieces. I'll probably go with an old muzzle-loader if this is the case.

I'm very curious to know why : I have always been intrigued by their italians.

Yes, the Italians do look quite good. The figures I bought, however, are quite horrendous;

This is, apparently, an Arab carrying a water bucket. The poor fellow doesn't even look human...

Thanks for the reply, matou, it’s been very helpful (as always). I must find a reference book on French colonialism...
I told you so. You damned fools.

That boy's a walking violation of the laws of human nature!    lol

I forget - is your game strictly historical, or set in an imaginary land/timeframe?

If imaginary, you could always go for some nice Krupps, or maybe anticipate the introduction of the "75" by a few years.

If historical, you'd probably be ok with Franco-Prussian War vintage guns, which look like muzzle-loaders to me:

Taken at Sedan, apparently.

Honestly, I haven’t really decided upon this. On the one hand, I'm buying steam tractors, tanks and, of course, inventing a new Franco-British war. But on the other hand, I'm agonising over the colour of soldier's buttons and the organisation of heliograph units, so I'm still kind of stuck on the fence here. I think I'd like to do both historical and non-historical, when I think about it...

Considering my British are armed with a muzzle loading screw gun, I'll probably keep with the theme and get a muzzle-loader for my French, too. Foundry's Franco-Prussian range seems a good place to get one of these.

That's alot of guns there!

Thanks.
