first of the cutthroats, the famous Kheir-ed-din, an Ottoman-Turkish admiral and privateer who served in the Ottoman Empire and in the Barbary Coast. Also known as Barbarossa , "Red beard". I think I should repaint his beard :) I should have first read about the guy then paint...

that's just a WIP pic , no worries, the guy will get his base.

btw, i'm not sure about bases, there are two possible variations on designing. Either the usual "round 5cent + sand" or one like that:

what would you prefer?

My 'pirates' (and the likes) get all planks under their feet. I mount all my miniatures on plastic bases. To prevent the bases from getting too high I sculpt the planks from a thin layer of green stuff right on the base.

"Uh, I better look in the manual... This book must be out of date. I don't see "Prussia", "Siam" or "autogyro"...

Those figs are great! I love how colourful they are. Some guys around here are putting together a pirate set of rules using Two Hour Wargames' black powder battles game system and it is really tempting...

Tough call on the bases because I could see the pirates on a buried treasure diorama base, so the sand and grass works well...  But I like the wooden characterful bases.  Here is one I did for my corsair captain:

I did sculpt that :)  Thanks for the positive feedback!

That was my fourth complete sculpt, and although I am not that great with proportions as of yet, I am getting the hang of working and smoothing the greenstuff :)

I actually put that base on there because I liked the idea, but also it made casting a lot easier than the slot style set up I did previously!

I see. But the hands look fine, something I still got problems with.

That's the way I'm sculpting my bases too. Looks better than gluing real wood under the mini.
