I love these old skaven. They look rarther sinister - yet absolutely pathetic. I'd say perfect. Nice painting.

Jes's first skaven were (and still are) the very best, nice job on those clan rats there.

Always liked the Skaven.  (Not too fond of rats in real life, though.)  Got more than is good for me, already, with new plastics coming in November.  Oh, well, the more the merrier.  Need a bunch for a fairly large diorama I'm working on, anyway.

(Just to be anal...they're not Clan rats.  Clan rats are brown-furred.  They're Stormvermin.)

And to return the favour, all skaven belong to some form of clan in their society, (the two C46 Skaven figures pictured are referred to as Stormvermin from the '89 catologue onwards) so we're both right.

Agreed, if you're referring to Clan as in Skryre (my favourite) or Eshin or similar.  However, if we're talking about clan (small 'c') rats in general, those with brown fur were relegated to simple rank and file regiments.  If you had black fur, you were considered of greater 'rank' and joined the Stormvermin.  Grey fur meant you were more magically inclined and if you had horns, well, then, the Horned Rat obviously had something special in mind for you!

Yep yep and yep! I also felt sorry for piebald and skewbald rats meself. Seem to recall albino were magically warpstone charged like the greys.

(Anyway let's get back to the lovely figures and stop showing our collective ages and lengths of wierdy beards ok?  ).

Not having read the background i just enjoy them as ratmen, and jez goodwins sculpts have never been equalled by GW since IMHO,

and to add my 2p in to the whole skaven cast thing.
in the old fluff, white skaven would be sorcerers aswell (there are some nice classic un horned "white seer" models from back in the day) but in current fluff, albino skaven would be taken by the council of 13 as their elite "white furred Stormvermin" and they are supposedly more vicious and better trained than the black ones.
