Blogspot Issues - Blogs flagged as malicious by Norton
« on: 05 November 2020, 04:26:43 PM »
... or perhaps the title should be Norton Issues. An increasing number of blogs and websites I visit are getting flagged by Norton with "Malicious Website Blocked!". These include Tom's Boring Mordheim Forum, This Life in Lead, One Sided Miniature Gaming Discourse and Roundwood's World. Anyone else using Norton and/or having these same issues? :?

Blogspot only recently offered an https:// version of blogs - try adding that instead of the normal http:// tag?

Yes, I've noticed this too.  Norton is currently flagging a wargames blog  Don't Throw a 1 that I like to read.

I run Norton too - some get flagged, but others (the majority) don't. Perhaps there is something in their algorithms that causes this?

I think that might be right.  I've just noticed Trebian's Wargaming for Grownup's is also being flagged.

I am starting to see the same flaggs, but I just click to disregard them.

I've started clicking the 'View Full Report' button then disputing the report with some success.

Norton's targeting Blogs?
« Reply #9 on: 15 November 2020, 04:53:11 PM »
What is it with Norton's flagging hobby blogs all of a sudden?   :?

I've seen several flagged as "known malicious sites" in the last few weeks, and just discovered my Lohwand blogs has been flagged as well. I complained to Norton's about the others I spotted and they had the flag taken away. I've complained about mine as well so hopefully that will be dealt with soon.

It makes me wonder how Norton's makes the determination? Algorithms? Are humans involved? And do those persons even know what wargaming is?

It's not just Blogger, other platforms have been flagged as well.

What annoys me the most is they don't give a reason for the flag. The main thing its doing is undermining my confidence in Norton's product.

Blog owners have to switch the secure site on.  It's got nothing to do with any Google algorithm.

That is not it. I have https "on" and my Lohwand blog just got flagged. Or rather, I just noticed it was flagged; I haven't posted or visited for a week or so.

I think it's a combination of human ineptitude and bad algorithms, with the first contributing to the second. Every time I have to dispute a flag like this I make sure to point out how my confidence with Norton is dropping.

Norton does other annoying things as well. I tried the "Safe Search" and a simple search pulled up almost no results compared to the same search without it. So I got rid of that. They keep pestering me to use their Safe Banking add on but already it opens a pop up every time I make a PayPal purchase; it used to interfere with the PayPal login, changing the focus from the input box to the email box mid stream. The latest round of Windows/Chrome updates seems to have stopped that.

Maybe it's a Chrome issue? I am beginning to believe Chrome is a pretty crap browser. At least on a Windows PC.

All true.  It's not just a chrome issue though.  I have same experience and I use Firefox.  It's a Norton issue by the look of it.
