Starting a new EPIC napoleonic project
« on: August 16, 2023, 06:19:00 PM »
I am starting a project that will see small starter armies of the Neil Thomas (One Hour Wargames) ilk and the building them to 'pocket armies' for bigger games, but doing it staged to help the painting barrier.

the two armies are Warlord Games Epic Napoleonic French & Prussian. If iterested here is the link.

There are a LOT of minis to paint with these EPIC sets.

I think chopping them up into blocks of playable, yet smaller units, helps maintain the painting momentum.

With my ACW lot, every time I need a little motivation, I just look at the 1st brigade of Union I have finished and it keeps me going. Mind you, 1 brigade of 4 single based regiments plus 2 guns and a Brigadier is 89 men.  o_o

Good luck with your project!

I admire anyone's dedication to get figures of this size and smaller painted.

Due to the 'block' type nature of their size / presentation, I think they look fine unpainted for games actually.

Does this mean that Epic has won the battle of the scales for you Norm? Is the carnage over?
I am going to build a wargames army, a big beautiful wargames army, and Mexico is going to pay for it.

2019 Painting Challenge :
figures bought: 500+
figures painted: 57
9 vehicles painted
4 terrain pieces scratchbuilt

James, I should say yes …. But as I look at the 28 stuff, I just can’t stand to move it on, yet I think I could more easily move the smaller stuff on if a decision had gone the other way - so perhaps that tells its own tale.

I have distilled it down to a hearts over mind matter, or perhaps aesthetic over practicality and at the moment ….. it is practicality that is winning :-)

It does at least push me in a more certain direction productivity wise.
