Plans and Goals for 2021....
« on: 07 January 2021, 07:52:47 AM »
It is that time of year again where some of us sit down and plan what we will build, paint, play and try to focus on without being distracted by the latest new shiney release.

What do you have planned for 2021?

I am a list guy, so it needs to be written down to try to keep me on some sort of progress track.

As a Wargame business I think this is very important for those effected by the Virus to have something to do especially as in my opinion we will be locked in our houses again during the winter months or until we can get vaccinated or some sort of herd immunity has been achieved.

We have had to change and tweak a few things to continue the business running in some sort of way last year. Thinking this year will be as difficult we have two new additions to our “Walk the battlefield in the morning, Wargame in the afternoon” tour and Wargame plus a newly renovated 180sqm private apartment accomodation on the third floor, three bedrooms, bathroom, lounge and kitchenette, with a option for self catering and relaxing. This gives us the ability for families or small groups for week long holiday stays still within the 18th century part of the Maison/chateau.

Please look out for our Wargames Holiday or cultural holiday deals coming out in the next two weeks, for the spring offensive .....

I also plan to release two ww2 scenario books and my new set of French Revolutionary Wars rules and scenarios. Plus a painting guide for the 100YW.

I have put together a my list on my blog
https://stormandconquest.blogspot.com/2021/01/french-wargame-holidays-projects-and.html

Happy New Year, and all the best wishes for a successful and productive year to you all.

Regards
Matt

That looks like a very ambitious list (2 lists actually :o) to me, especially if you are undertaking the renovations yourself.

I generally don't make lists; I have a general idea of what I want to achieve hobby-wise over the course of the year but I be sure to allow lots of opportunity for distractions. :D Although, I may feel differently if my business and hobby interests intersected as yours do.

I go wherever the butterfly takes me. But I would like to finish my 10mm War of the Roses army and a southern American Civil war army.

For me the biggest thing this year will be making storage more efficient.

I'm quite pleased with how much I got painted in 2020 and want to keep it up this year.

More 15mm sci fi albeit with a greater concentration on scenery.

Also want to get my 6mm projects fully painted before progressing.

Always ambitious, it is how I have always approached the hobby. 4-6 hours working on the house a day, and painting or modelling as they are our main business.

Last year had a 76% project completion rate. The lockdown helped the construction and the Wargames painting this year will be similar I think.

I go wherever the butterfly takes me. But I would like to finish my 10mm War of the Roses army and a southern American Civil war army.

I used to be young and free once....... I am still a bit of a butterfly, but try to stay within the goals I have set.

Westeros in 28mm  :)

Interesting using the figures specific to the set or a mix of historicals thrown in?

Storage....always a challenge, I am building a new terrain cupboard just for ww2 buildings, I must have 100 odd pieces that are single or based a mix of resin and plastic....

Plus a new rack for terrain tiles, another challenge.

Cheers

Thanks to lockdown over the summer all my backlog was finished so now it's a Celtic army in 28mm for To the Strongest, followed by 1/600 coastal WW2 then I have an hankering for Tsushima in 1/2400.  As I'm back off work for most of January I expect the Celts to progress well.

I go wherever the butterfly takes me.

I'm with Dr. Zombie. (Hell that would make a great t-shirt)

That said, I did stop myself from picking up some minis for a new project and instead got some figures to help finish an Oathmark army so maybe I am not so ephemeral?

My main goal is to clean up my game area and post some posters on the walls to make it look a bit more friendly.

http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=128856.0

where I said “My other resolution is not to start any new projects to distract me from the above but I doubt that will happen  :)

But then I have just had an email about the Northstar sale this weekend so that resolution it already out the window  lol

Plans and goals for 2021...

Paint my Late Achaemenid Persian army for TTS. Lovely Foundry figures bought back in 2019 but a bu**er to paint well

Paint the 1-3rd century AD German army for TTS which should arrive from Foundry any day now.....

Finish my 15mm  Cold War Dutch.

Start the 6-player "Crusades" campaign which I have promised my mates I will run this year to give context to some of our TTS games.

Don't get tempted by the Northstar sale.

Or any January wargaming sale for that matter!!!!!!

I am also a bit of a list person. I find I do get more done if I make a list and work through it.
I am in a bit of a funk at the moment but I do see a way out and have some wargaming goals.
1 Get my wargames table moved from the old house and set up in my flat. (in 2 weeks time)
2.Get a few batches of vehicles finished
3. Finish some ACW units for Rebels and Patriots  so I don't have to keep using my mate's figures
4. Carry on with my 1/60 Crossfire forces
5. Start on my backlog of Sudan figures
6. Paint more than I buy .
I am going to build a wargames army, a big beautiful wargames army, and Mexico is going to pay for it.

2019 Painting Challenge :
figures bought: 500+
figures painted: 57
9 vehicles painted
4 terrain pieces scratchbuilt

I plan to work on some late and early war tanks this year.  But my two biggest projects are my Sherman Easy 8 that I plan to scratch build an interior for and my Crusader 1/48 I am going to convert to the seldom loved Covenanter.

I concentrated on my celts last year 330 28mm figures...I have a Spanish dreadnought fleet and a American fleet to complete one day....

It is good to have at least one focus then add some butterfly projects for variety.

I am adding some artwork to the walls, getting 18th-19th century type frames is a challenge though for our wargames "Salon de Guerre" can be problematic. I have recently purchased some glycee prints which now need to be framed....another job on the list.

Yes, I am interested in the new Footsore releases myself

Cold War Dutch....I am trying to resist my 20mm Russian Airborne and Sweedish defence units.

Without a list I would be a total squirrel, hopping from piece to piece with no focus at all. I do like some relief or change especially if I am painting irregulars a lot.

Best of luck with the move and with the motivation. 1/60 crossfire now that sounds interesting.

I plan to work on some late and early war tanks this year.  But my two biggest projects are my Sherman Easy 8 that I plan to scratch build an interior for and my Crusader 1/48 I am going to convert to the seldom loved Covenanter.

Ohh that sounds fabulous, I am trying to resist building a number of 1/35th kits to build.

Cheers
