Another idea mulling around in my head!
« on: 18 April 2021, 08:00:18 AM »
So I’m looking at potential classical armies, mainly from a painting perspective, so looking for nice figures.
I’m now thinking late Babylonian...
I like the mixed multi national forces involved, a bit like early Persian but still using chariots.

Figures wise,
I’m wondering if I can kit bash some stuff from plastics?
Lydian hoplites - Victrix heavy Greek hoplites (the ones with the bronze breast plate)
Medes - using mix of Victrix unarmoured Persians, and Wargames Atlantic Persians?
Chaldeans - again using the plastic Persians, maybe some heads from elsewhere?

Warlord do a nice Babylonian Kings chariot.
I’ve got some early Scythian horse archers.
Early Arab camelry with 2 crew, Warlord perhaps? Newline?

The only thing missing is Babylonian cav and Chariots?
Perhaps the old Vendel range could help there?

Thanks for looking.

This of course could very well evolve into just an early Persian army!!!

I think the Victrix Achaemenid boxes do open up the possibilities for Neo-Babylonians, as most of what they are wearing is Median style costumes. This gives you a lot of what is needed for your largest ally/contingent with some pointy helmets substituted. The Victrix heavy hoplites are probably too late for this period if you are a purist. If you are happy to squint and add in more pointy helmets, most of the armour is hidden behind a big shield... The Warlord plastic hoplites have better options and will mix well with their metal Babylonian figures but you are taking swapping heads with Victrix or Atlantic off the table. (Dammit you’ve got me looking at army lists now!)

Yeah, it could be costly, as only 2 figures on every sprue has a bronze bell breast plate, but those two figures would be great.
I think I was thinking of an excuse to buy Victrix Persians!
As I said above, I’m now drifting towards early Persian armies!
Lol, I’m like a moth round a candle, just flitting through ideas.

New-Babylonians can easily go forward to Early Achaemenid, or back to late Neo-Assyrian. I have No-Assyrian and Early Achaemenid armies and can take bits of both to make Neo-Babylonians.
