I used the Renegade Jagers to make some Seebatallion for my VSF Prussians.

A couple more pictures from greatwardifferent.com:

Flanders:

Tsingtao:

I was thinking of painting up some jagers as Tsingtao Seebatallion soldiers but I've got a big enough lead pile as it is without adding a load of Jagers to it (don't know if you can get the right Japanese anyway).

edit: deleted what had already been posted earlier in thread.

Just realised everything I posted had already been posted earlier on. Apologies Plynkes, you are not chopped liver and I must read threads properly in future (I was half asleep).

Must look like a bit of an idiot now. It wouldn't be the first time, though.

soory about this resurection,

but Bob Murch's Pulp Seebattalion figures have been on my mind a bit, partly because a friend has some and I like them.

What do these figures represent in terms of period etc...

as while this thread is informative it has confused me a bit  :D

cheers for the help  ;)

Well those rifles they are carrying look as if they're trying to be G98s (though they don't look quite right to me), which would mean 1897ish onwards. So Boxer Rebellion and African Colonial business  (German Southwest 1904-1908: Herero and Nama revolts, German East 1905-1906: Maji-Maji Revolt).

They fought in the Great War, but I'm not aware of them wearing that particular tropical/summer uniform while doing so.

Thanks Plynkes

That makes them quite niche then, I just liked the look of them for a short jump in a back of beyond campaign sort of thing

I'm sure Bob Murch just had them in mind as Jerry antagonists for lantern-jawed heroes to fight in Pulp games, where nobody is too bothered as to what the date is or whether Germany currently has a Kaiser or a President.

there were some colourplates somewhere in the net with the seebattaillon uniform
I'll have to find them again
http://www.marine-infanterie.de/
http://www.sacktrick.com/igu/germancolonialuniforms/tsingtao%20III%20seebatallion%20summer.htm
http://www.sacktrick.com/igu/germancolonialuniforms/militaria/seebat%20dark%20blue%20uniform.htm
http://www.historischer-bilderdienst.de/images/kontaktabzugu110.jpg
http://www.uniformfotos.de/marine.html
there was basically a blue service dress and the khaki service dress
the headgear depended on where they were used
1st and 2nd battallion were always stationed in germany, 3rd was specially formed for tsingtao, and detachments of the first two were occasionally used abroad, eg for the boxer rebellion
pith helmets or hats in africa, I posted somewehere a picture of 3rd battaillon cavalry squadron in tsingtao with covered pickelhaube
here
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seebatallione
I don't know what the special formed navy infantry divisions wore in northern france
I hope I could help

I've found some more pictures of German Naval uniforms and this time the pictures haven't been posted before  ;D(although other pictures of the same things have). They have a whole load of them on grosse-generalstab.de. They also have a lot of pictures of colonial troops as well.

A (very) small selection of the pictures:

Excellent. I have those askari pictures on my hard drive pinched from somewhere, but I haven't seen the others before. They look a bit like cigarette cards to me. I had millions of British ones like that dating from way back when I was a kid, but they were lost in a fire.  :'(
