Wars of the Roses - starting out
« on: 30 November 2021, 05:25:07 PM »
I'm looking to start into the Wars of the Roses in 15mm. Ideally I would like to build two opposing armies of average size. What is the best place to start out as far as uniforms colors and heraldry are concerned? I know it is possible to paint both sides in generic manner with a few units that stand to one side or the other. What are generic color schemes for the era? What do people recommend to someone just starting out?

A good start would be the free flag sets formerly offered by the Grimsby Wargame club on their website:

Units in Heraldic colours can be used for either side by exchanging command stands (or just banners come to that)

If you are looking for banners/standards for your armies I would check out the Little Big Men 15mm banner sheet. Probably the best detailed there is and good value at £10 for 20 banners. IMHO decent banners help make an army impressive-looking on the table and can help hide a multitude of painting sins!
