Attack on Henry's Hill 1861
« on: December 10, 2021, 02:40:27 PM »
Played a boardgame last week covering the attack on Henry's Hill. Taking the situation of the boardgame, I played again as a figures game using 12mm on a small table. Black Powder rules were used, but tweaked to replicate the chaos and command uncertainty that the boardgame prosecutes.

Very interesting what you did with the chits with Black Powder.  We did something similar wth our "What if...?" War of 1812 games we just played (see the thread in this section of LAF).  We assigned playing cards to each Brigade (Ace, king, Queen, etc.), and the turn sequence went like this:

A.  Attach Army Commanders to a brigade, if desired.
B.  Draw cards for each Brigade's orders/movement sequence.
C.  Move Army commanders who didn't move in step A.
D.  Reshuffle, and draw cards for each Brigade's firing sequence.
E.  Remove "disorder" makers, save those in HtH combat.
F.  Fight HtH combats.

We like it, as it appears you liked using your chits.  It did add some more "Fog of war" elements into the game, and I think we'll be using it in our future Black Powder games...

Hi Jim, that sounds interesting. I really only did it to help replicate the way the boardgame had handled the  subject, but having done it, I will be applying it to more of my future games. My opponent felt it was much more interactive and more interesting for that - so thumbs up :-)

Yeah - we thought the same thing about interactivity.    There was also quite a bit of "Gee, I really hops I move/fire first..." going on... :)
