Marine Attack on Hill 124 Part II
« on: August 30, 2011, 05:37:37 AM »
A madeup battle somewhere in the South Pacific 1943. Three commands of Marines with five units each are ordered to take the hill and clear the Japanese from around the area. About 75 Marines against 55 Japanese and a couple of pillboxes.

General view of the battlefield.

Marines begin to advance against the hill.

Japanese launch a number of limited counter attacks,Their Bushido was strong "Banzai!" rang in the Marines' ears. Japanese break a few Marine units. But in the end .30 Cals and rifle fire win the day.
Part II tomorrow.

Sorry all did not mean to leave you hanging, just ran out of time last night. The Marine right flank, is stopped by Japanese Hv. MG in heavy woods. In the middle the Marines make it to a dead zone at the base of the hill. The Japanese uncover another Hv. Mg on the top of the hill. On the left flank, the Marines try to recover from Japanese counter attacks.

The Marines on the right are told to get moving and support the attack in the center. They respond by moving out and using their flamethrower to kill most of the Japanese facing them.

Two Marine units make it to the top of the hill. One digs in, the other attacks the pillbox and knock it out.

Japanese make their final Banzai attack. They make some headway but lose the fight due to superior number of Marines.
With only a few units left the Japanese retreat. The Marines hold the hill and lose about 35% of their forces.
Japanese lose around 75%.
Most of the figures for both sides are Battle Honour figures. A few are West Wind and a TAG figure mixed in.
Game took about 3 hours or so.
Rules used were my homebrew WWII.

Thanks for the nice comments everyone.
I am some what surprised with HBO's "The Pacific" out that there has not been an upswing of interest in playing this part of the war.
I know that it may not be as "sexy" (if that is the word I am looking for.) as Europe.
But there is alot of interesting battles to be fought. Even some tanks in a few of them.  ;)
Hopefully I can share some battles in the future.

My interest is the South-West Pacific and there are still tanks in this area.

Cheers,

Helen
