Sci-fi Hover/Air Car.
« on: 06 November 2009, 01:23:13 PM »
I was getting nowhere with my submarine idea, so I'm embarking on something a bit simpler, building a hover car out of a pencil sharpener.

Behold, scale shots and a few angles of what will be the base of my nippy little hover car. I know the pictures are awful, my camera has really expensive taste in batteries so I'm just using my mobile phone for these establishing shots. I'll use my camera for the WIP and final pictures.

EDIT: rubbish mobile phone pictures removed!

Some progress with the air car.

A number plate, perhaps? Or maybe a hatch for petrol/rocket fuel/unobtainium?

A reinforced glass plate at the front of the cockpit, the only concession to the health of the driver I'm going to make. Something tells me this little car is going to be unsafe at any speed!

That looks like it might be great - got to agree though, the first couple of photos are horrible and make my head hurt.

Realy interested in where you go with this, I'm always interested in people building civillian vehicles from household objects. It makes me think that someday I mighht actually build my own...

Plastic vitamin tablet jars make good bodies for sci-fi hovercraft. Make up the skirts with half-section beading around a rectangle of foamcore, mount the jar on top (lying on its side) and build up any kind of superstructure you like around it.

Tiny update. I fitted a jet exhaust.

I've had too much stuff on this week to really think about this project.

Construction finished, so I can't post a final picture update. Now to paint it, and I'm so glad of its small surface area.

I'm pretty sure I don't stand a chance of winning this competition but it's been a lot of fun taking part. Thanks for the motivation!
