All at Sea on International Naval Wargames Day
« on: 06 August 2022, 08:30:39 AM »
To help promote International Naval Wargames Day and the thrills and spills of playing games with model ships, I got together with friends earlier this week to recreate two historical scenarios from the classic age of sail using the collection of 1:700th model ships.

Today's celebration of all things naval wargaming couldn't have come at a better time as I have just completed writing up fifty of an initially planned one-hundred historical small ship scenarios gleaned from the pages of William James' classic naval history covering the early years of the French Revolutionary War and am in the process of play-testing them with friends from Devon Wargames Group.

The scenarios have been designed to build a structure around the Meeting Engagement and Chase situation that came to characterise many of these historical fights, with the opportunity for one situation to easily revert to the other but with the players having to take into account the requirements of the situations based on those faced by their historical predecessors that are built into the victory conditions, together with the results they achieved compared to those achieved on table.

Much fun was had recreating these classic actions, one from 1793 off Long Island, New York, and the other from 1796 in the Caribbean off Guadeloupe, so if you would like to see how things played out, then just follow the link to JJ's.
