Building an oasis
« on: 24 July 2025, 08:23:29 AM »
for our wargames set in North Africa and the Levant I wanted to model an oasis including a water basin, water channels and of course showing it´s agricultural use.

And here are completed terrain pieces representing my version of an Oasis that is very far from perfect.
Palms and some of the bigger other plants are cheap China plastic ones which I've completely repainted, the citrus trees, pumpkins and many of the tufts are scratch built.

More background information and many more pictures can be found on my Blog at:

Lovely work!
Em dezembro de '81
Botou os ingleses na roda
3 a 0 no Liverpool
Ficou marcado na história
E no Rio não tem outro igual
Só o Flamengo é campeão mundial
E agora seu povo
Pede o mundo de novo

Very impressive.

The good thing aboat an Oasis is that you should be able to recycle it 20 years on. Hopefully yours doesn't come with outrageous ticket prices. :D

The channels look like the Madeira Levadas!  Pretty cool.

For my own irrigated fields I went a little more rustic with raised berm channels made from cocktail sticks.  Same idea though.   What did you use for the bricks?

Very nicely done.

Must ask - had you seen Digits' work here on LAF?  His work inspired me - and I plan to get a well similar to his from Miniature Building Authority (15 mm, for Russia, but adaptable).

Your work is also inspiring, by the way.  ;)

Thank you all again  :)

What did you use for the bricks?

Well, water basin and the channel bricks are all made using XPS foam, sealed with a mixture of ModPodge and black paint before painting them.
