Saga Medieval
« on: December 23, 2023, 08:29:03 AM »
I keep seeing suggestions about the imminent arrival of a new Saga Medieval book.
This would be like mana from nirvana for me.
But I can find nothing about it.
Keep in mind I'm not a Faceberk.

I'd be ever so grateful if anyone in the know could share the information for those, like me, who are really looking forward to this but can't find anything about it.
When's it due for release? What armies will be in it? etc.

I'm going to take a punt and have a guess what will be in it.
They normally include 6 different forces. My guess will be:
- HYW English
- HYW French
(I think we can take that for granted. No real surprises there. But here's where it gets a bit more conjectural...)
- Italian Condottiere
- Low Countries
- Swiss
- Hungarians

But a case could be made for Burgundians and Germans as well.

I'm totally up for this one.

Hi,

So unfortuantely the previews that have come out are behind a paywall (SAGA Thorsday podcast's patreon) and are not supposed to be shared beyond that. Back in August SAGA Thorsday had Alex, the head of Studio Tomahawk on and he confirmed the book would not be ready for a 2023 release, but will come out as soon as it can. I think we are hoping to see it in the first half of next year.

From the Thorsday episode they confirm 12 factions, so it's a larger book than the ancients books.

Keep in mind I'm not a Faceberk.

They've not even mentioned it on Facebook! Studio Tomahawk's page seems to mostly be about their upcoming WW2 rules than Saga, so I assume that is publishing first.

I remember seeing it somewhere, but for the life of me can't remember where. As for armies, it depends on their definition of 'Medieval'. We can discount anything from 700AD - 1100 and the Crusades as they are covered by other books. I think HYW is a good shout.

12, eh?
That's great.
Then I think the ghost of Braveheart is still strong and we can expect some Scots as well.
It might depend on what medieval period they are aiming at. I'm guessing they'll play safe with Hundred Years War, and specifically the mid-war Agincourt period.

Aha! Thanks for the information Ogrob!
Having talked to people who know people here on the German Saga circuit, it is expected to aim at the HYW era. I expect they're planning on leaving into the pretty extensive Perry plastics range for people to get their minis. As for factions I'd guess:
- HYW French
- HYW English (I wonder how they're planning on dealing with longbows)
- Scots (Auld alliance and all)
- Castillians (Black Prince in Spain and all)
- Swiss
- Flemmish/Dutch
- Germans (although that could be a stand alone expansion book)
- Danes (to interact with the Norther Crusade book factions)
- Italians (although that could be expansion book #2)
- Free Company
- Hungarians
- Duchy of Athens/ remnant Byzantum / Balkans

Will be fun to finally see the book. :)

For the era, I don't think I've seen an exact confirmation, but my guess/impression is early 14th to mid 15th centuries.

Back in the summer there was an image shared of a playtest and it confirms French and English are in (imagine that). The english do not have any levy activations on their battleboard, which gives some hints about how they are doing the english longbowmen.

Hoping we see this next year but think the WW2 game V for Victory will likely come out first. Think we will see factions teased as it gets closer to release.

From what little I have seen on the SAGA FB group it sounds like the focus is Northern/Western Europe though someone mentioned no Italians. If the latter is true it could be they think that deserves it's own supplement or something.
