Sir Walter Raleigh
« on: 19 April 2024, 10:44:44 PM »
Looking for a good 28mm figure to represent Sir Walter Raleigh.  I have looked at figures from Foundry and Assault Group and the closest I have found so far is a Militia commander from the latter.

DarkElf, which particular features of his costume/armor are you focused on?  The peascod breastplate?  I know you said you looked in WargamesFoundry.  Did you consider any of the three helmeted officers in the below set?

Another possibility might be the Warlord Fames, Wars of Religion ranges, e.g. the Armored Swordsmen:

Thanks very much those ideas they are all good options I had not seen before. I had mainly been thinking of these Foundry Swashbuckler miniatures (figure on far right)  https://www.wargamesfoundry.com/products/sb022-squire-edwards-swashbucklers?_pos=1&_sid=2bf1729e8&_ss=r
However I like the Eureka and the Foundry  LIZ001 - Command and Characters 1 (far right) options so I  will likely order those. The Foundry SB025 figures, far right again also looks like a possibility.  Sadly the Eureka figure is shown as not available.

Not for Raleigh but a related question, has anyone painted these Tudor Courtiers? Curios to see how these plastic 32mm and 28mm game figures  would turn out painted as I have them.  It is a very hard plastic similar in what you might find in a model kit.     https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/academygames/tudor

DarkElf,
If you are considering the Wargames Foundry LIZ001 pack, you might also want to consider the LIZ002 Command and Characters pack.  Some good prospects there too (the fellow on the extreme right certainly being one):

Sadly, I think you'll find that the Foundry Elizabethan range is not really compatible with Foundry's Seadogs/Swashbucklers etc. The Elizabethans were sculpted by the Perrys for Citadel's 'Wars of Religion' range in the 1980s and they are 25mm. In other words, they will be much smaller than the Seadogs/Swashbucklers etc. It's a pity because they are great figures.

I just put them on a somewhat higher base than the Sea Dogs.
