(Commercial) Deathship One
« on: June 04, 2024, 12:30:38 PM »
My new game is now available. It's simple, solo or co-op, terrain lite, rules lite. Essentially you play a squad of soldiers pulled out of any era from history or science-fiction and dump them in an alien death trap and see if they can survive. Probably, they won't.

There was a black & white Patrick Troughton episode of Dr Who that had a similar premise.
Excellent to see it out as a game setting
Gary, Glynis, and Alasdair (there are three of us, but we are too mean to have more than one login)

Is that 'the Wargames'? I haven't seen it, but I should.  Is it one of the lost episodes? (Checks BBC Iplayer) Ah, it's there. Okay, it's in the watching queue!

If memory serves it runs for 10 25 minute episodes and is the swansong for Patrick Troughton.

Is there game report anywhere for Deathship One?

Is that 'the Wargames'?

I think the title was something on those lines.

I've a vague recollection that there's a similar plotline in something else too ("Outer Limits" episode perhaps? or one of the "Weird Tales"/"Astounding" pulp comics from the 1960s?)

And of course you get a similar idea in more modern things like "Running Man" or "The Hunger Games" (although those are probably more inspired by Roman gladiators)

Sounds tailor made for Wargames Atlantic's Deathfields sets...

Quite intrigued by this, may well give the rules a go.  :)

Must admit, the cover art makes me think of a fantastally mad movie I watched one time, Samurai Commando...

The premise reminds me of the Predators movie, the one with Adrian Brody in the lead.

Sounds like fun though (to play the miniatures game, not to live through it, mind)...
Miniatures you say? Well I too, like to live dangerously...
