Chattanooga using Altar of Freedom Rules

Several of us have just spent a satisfying 4 hours playing the 1863 battle of Chattanooga using the Altar of Freedom ruleset.
For those who don't know them they are a set specifically aimed at 6mm, where 1 base of figures represents a Brigade. We use bases of circa 30 Baccus figures as a Brigade.

The rules themselves are quite short and are supported by two books of historical cenarios, which come with maps and all the unit markers and lists of Generals involved together with their strengths and weaknesses.

 They have some nice, innovative mechanisms such as the "Turn clock" which dictates which units go first and also how long a turn will actually last. The nuts and bolts of movement, firing, combat and morale are actually quite simple with the real role of the Generals being in deciding where to prioritise effort rather micro-managing units...although brigades do need to do their job.

We have now played the rules several times and are beginning to understand the subtleties of them. Playing the Union today we were coming from the North and West had to either take Rossville in the SE or break the Confederate morale. We had a preponderance of troops but seemingly never enough command points to use them. By the end of the 9th and final turn we hadn't taken Rossville but broke their morale and won by the skin of out teeth.

 The scenario felt well-balanced and we all enjoyed ourselves.
