RIP Tony Anderson of NAVWAR
« on: 05 June 2024, 09:26:04 PM »
Perhaps this has alreaady been announced on LA. But last week Mr.Tony Anderson of NAVWAR passed away after a lengthy illness. Tony was around 76 years old as I recollect. I had the pleasure of speaking to Tony this past January for about an hour on the telephone. We reminisced about the good old days of wargaming, ships, his uncle who served in the RN in WW2. I sure hope someone will purchase his line and continue producing his excellent models.Believe it or not the best (and only) way to contact anyone from his family is to drop a line to a barber named "Bev" who is 2 doors away from Tony's shop. This kind man has a way of getting messages through to family and friends of Tony. No one has been answering the shop line even on Saturdays. RIP to one of the greatest gentleman purveyors of wargaming products.

Such sad news, Tony was one of the nicest and most helpful gentlemen I ever met through this hobby. Navwar has not been what economists would recognise as a "business" for many years, being just the physical embodiment of the incredible passion Tony had for making model ships and his profound knowledge of Naval history and warfare. Telephone calls to the shop were always enlightening, fascinating and....long.

My deepest condolences to his family. RIP Tony, My next tot of Pusser's is in your honour.

I have a reputation for being a talker. A friend was once asked to sum me up in three words. Her reply? "Hind leg, donkeys"  :)
Tony could match me word for word. There were times the phone call cost more than the ships I bought! I didn't begrudge a penny.
Though Tony's insistence on not using email or having a web cart on his site occasionally ground my gears there was more than one occasion that I ordered ships from Tony and books for background reading from Amazon and Tony's "Victorian" business methods got the ships to me days ahead of Amazon's hi-tech processes.
He will be missed.
There are 100 types of people in the world. Those who understand binary and those who can work from incomplete data.

I had heard this earlier in the week, a real shame. Hopefully someone will take over the business and keep Tonys legacy going. :(

Tony's wife will continue the business. She is currently casting ships to bring the shop back up to fully stocked.
