Flodden Stuff in 15mm
« on: 29 July 2025, 11:11:23 AM »
I have been doing some Flodden stuff. Part of an ongoing project over the last few years. To my surprise I’m nearly finished. Only half a dozen units to paint and my rules for the period are in first draft.

Since I embarked on this project a number of the Manufacturers I used are no longer operating. That is a bit of a caution and I remind myself to buy stuff while it is still there.

If the Flodden period is of interest here is the link.

Just 3 more units to go and this one is done as far as painting is concerned. You can see my progress on my blog at the link below.

Very nice! I’ve got lots of these figures myself  - a ‘finished’ English army and a Scots army about 2/3 done.

I guess the reference to manufacturers closing down might refer in part to QRF, perhaps Fighting 15s as well?

I am a fan of the Donnington New Era range - if you have gaps you might find their Late Medievals fit well. There are quite a lot of models across the Wars of the Roses, Swiss, Burgundians etc that I use for Scottish and English men at arms in plate, that would blend fine with QRF.

Their horse are good too but not in the same unit as QRF if you’re a perfectionist.
My armies:
- Henry VIII's army (WIP) 15mm
- Ancient Germans (28mm)
- Ancient Belgae (Gauls with German allies) (28mm)
- Massilian Greeks (Greeks and Gallic mercenaries/subjects) (28mm)
- A few EI Romans (28mm)
- Handful of WW2 British (15mm)
- A load of old 1993-1999ish Warhammer Orcs and Goblins

Thanks Ockius. Yeah, I remember your collection well, very nice.

Yes, those two and Roundway too. Although Geoff might resurrect QRF with a bit of luck.

I buy a lot of Donnington for El Cid. I'll have a look at their fellows in plate.

Yes, shame about the companies fading out.

I enjoyed a read of your blog and seeing the various Flodden units - especially like the way the boy and bill unit in livery colours and St George patches looks, and also the blue and white demi-lancers with matching standard.

These ones are suitable for Flodden. Figures from QRF and flag's from Ray at Don't Throw A One blog. Lords Hamilton and Maxwell and their men in that order. This leaves me with one unit of Highlanders to complete.
