Ral Partha Battlesystem Horde “mongols”
« on: 30 January 2025, 12:48:42 AM »
Hello

I m thinking about buying some spare old Ral Partha minis that were included in a vintage game  also made by Ral Partha ..those minis look like mongols and they could be ok for me
The only Ral Partha minis I ever handled , and still own , are some  colonials and quite a few Swiss and Landsquenechts (Condottieri Range) from  their  historical line that I easily mix, being small 25mm castings, even with my plastic 1/72…
May I ask please if somebody has ever handled those very mongols or similar from same boxed game, and if they also are , like other  RP historical ranges, on the smallish 25mm size so to be mixed with my 1/72 Zvezda  plastic mongols? Light cavalry mongols in that scale, without armour, are quite rare and  usually with few poses
Im not particularly choosy 😀
May thanks

Those guys are definitely in the standard Ral Partha 25mm for that time - definitely small by today's standards.  I think they would be a bit large compared to the Zvezda mongols though.  But then again, mongols were not all the exact same height, so as long as the weapons/gear scale similarly, having tall and short mongols around is probably not a bad thing.

these are the old ral partha 25mm mongols from probably the 80's if not the 70's.  There are a lot more choices out there with better sculpting  unless you are on a retro theme.

Thanks to both for your answers..good to know they are on the small size

I must admit that not only the theme but even myself i'm happy to be very "retro"  as concern fashion, food, sports, work and, wargames   lol and obviously also girls ;)..
the few brands that make mongols in my choosen scale, which is 20mm/1/72, offer some very few  mounted light horse archers in their set.
Zvezda and Italeri sets depict  a sort of panzer type horde with fully armored riders and horses..while, as we know, two thirds, if not more, of a Mongol army was certainly composed of light cavalry archers with no armour or protections at all...so those dated Ral Partha "proxie" mongols could be a possible good choice..together with a few Tumbling Dice 20mm castings even if, nowdays, for us poor continental europeans subject to heavy taxes, long waits  and strict regulations , it s very expensive to order big quantities of stuff  from UK
