Mixing paint?
« on: 06 March 2025, 07:31:10 PM »
This video turned up as a random play on my youtube account:

 https://youtu.be/VWJ5qdCe8sY?si=cXACv8QsJ2GeAVRR

It's a DIY spray paint spinner that uses a power drill to spin the cans instead of shaking the living daylights out of them. It apparantly works better as well and is quicker!
I was wondering if anyone knows if this would work with smaller bottles of acrylic paint as well? Knocking up a spinner tube would be a lot easier and cheaper than a vortex type shaker?

The internet shall provide

there are 3d printable drill attachments now on sale at your nearest Ebay - choose your bottle type attach and spin away!

The link is massive - just go there and search "Vortex Mixer Spinner Stirrer Shaker Drill Attachment for Game Color/ Model color"

Assuming you have a drill, your good to go.

There are lots of similar videos around related to different size power tool paint mixers if you search.

other options for attachments to other tools if you have them and wish to try them - eg electric saws etc, but probably a cheap bit for the drill you already have is the best thing to try first to minimise possible injury/damage/spillage/flying things.

Others on the forum I think have even made/posted about some of the variants of this kind of stuff and some of the fun that can come of them.

I use the spinner for aerosol cans of paint.  Love it.

For small bottles, such as craft paints, I use Painter's Tape, wrapped around my handheld Jig Saw's blade and the paint bottles.  It has a variable speed trigger.  It shakes the Devil out of them, quickly, efficiently, without killing my arm in the process.  I love it.

The Painter's Tape can be used several times before I need to peel it off, and replace it.  Cheers!

Thanks for this.
I'm getting a friend to print me something that looks like whqt was on the Ebay search so I will see how it goes.

Thanks for the quick replies.
