Space gnoll scavengers
« on: March 16, 2025, 05:41:50 PM »
Hey folks! It's been a while, but I'm painting a bit more so I thought I'd throw a finished project up.

These guys are 'Maroques' - a group of local sapients that are inconveniently in the way of an offworld mining concern. They've developed a habit of scavenging gear off unfortunate scouting teams, and some tribes seem to have been armed with more advanced tech by mysterious other parties. The base models are the Frostgrave gnolls, but they've undergone a bit of greenstuff work and some donations of parts from other kits.  They're largely used as local 'primitives' for games like Stargrave or 5 Parsecs.

I posted the first few on here a few years back, but I thought you'd be interested in the finished project. C&C very welcome, and thanks for looking.

I totally agree, those are great! It is pretty cool how the parts blend together and look quite natural with your painting. These are inspiring.

I?ve built something similar but haven?t painted them yet, so might use this as inspiration.

Those are excellent! I was planning to do the same with Cultists with some sci-fi weaponry.

I really find the Frostgrave plastics to be very useful for kitbashing into other periods.  Just yesterday i did these guys for Gothic Horror games

I?ve found the cultists great for Sci Fi figures, although I used a lot of the standard Stargrave heads with them, and good so see they work for black powder too.

Really all these kits mix up together very nicely.

It?s getting where i buy 2-3 Frostgrave boxes intending fully to kitbash every figure.  I don?t even play in the standard fantasy genre much anymore but it doesn?t stop me from buying the boxes!

Now i have got to go get some more gnolls after seeing these?

Very Tribal Savage looking, love those :)

Thank you! It's the look I was going for, so that's great to hear.

That's really kind. I'm glad the blend works.

Love these!

Thank you!

Thanks a lot. I was partly inspired by a game called Rimworld with a few mods. Starting from a tribal tech level, managing to live through a raid by an enemy or two with a shotgun or hunting rifle could be a huge boon for the survivors. I ended up with a crew with mostly bows and arrows but a few precious higher tech weapons and an ever-diminishing pool of ammo for them. They felt like relics!

I like these, good stuff!

I?ve built something similar but haven?t painted them yet, so might use this as inspiration.

Thank you! I hope you post them up when you get round to it. I could always be inspired to do a few more.

They're amazingly versatile kits - I've really enjoyed using the parts on various projects. I have a single sprue of the dwarf ?crossbowmen I got for free with another purchase that I've been thinking about what to do with next.

I like your cultists a lot. They fit in perfectly for the Lovecraftian setting.

Great work, dude, love them! Love the mongrelisation of gear- I can imagine the Maroque with flame thrower panicking first time they use it! :P

Thanks, man! I really like that image - definitely going to be headcanon for the guy now.

Those are nice knolls.

Cheers!
