I've had my eye on the Pacific for quite a while now, and with the rerelease of Battlefronts Pacific for Mid War I picked up both the USMC and the Japanese starterbox. I immediately gave away the cards and the books as I don't intend to use the FoW rules but the Battlegroup rules.

Now, again, i have a shitty record of finishing stuff. Stalker is doing pretty well, on and off, but I'm going to need a bit more planning on this one.

So, i'll be building for the first 2 scenarios (as there is considerable overlap), Scenario 1 - Getting "The Point" - Peleliu, 15th April 1944 and Scenario 2 - Holding "The Point" - Peleliu, 15th-16th April 1944

To help me sort the models needed and keep a record of what I have done and still need to do we need some bookkeeping. Well, I need some bookkeeping. So, mark off sheets.

What do I need for the Japanese:

Japanese Scenario 1:

The bunkers will have a fixed roof, looks nicer, easier and quicker to build and blend into the table. I'll laminate photos of the tops and put the models that are inside on top of it. Easy peasy. I will do the same for off table, a model does more for me than just a marker.

Japanese Scenario 2:

Some extra troopers, a gun, some conversions, looking forward to it :)

The USMC feels like a horde army somehow :P

USMC Scenario 1:

LVT-2's I'll get printed once the troops are painted. I'm woefully short of bazooka teamd, and Battlefront only sells these as one team per heavy weapons box/blister, so Peter Pig it is. A lot of repeats so all the more reason to factory line these.

USMC Scenario 2:

Again I can reuse a lot, but I do need to build a captured Woodpecker, and I already started work on that. Yes yes, don't do the fun bits first they say. :P

Then scenery bits. I have a big box full of craters so that is sorted, I need to find a beach mat somewhere. The bluff can be made with foam underneath the mat. Palmtrees I already started. The rest I will see once I get there.

Boring bit over, time to get started.

captured woodpecker?

Captured Type 92 HMG.

It was nicknamed "the woodpecker" by Western Allied soldiers because of the characteristic sound it made when fired due to its relatively low rate of fire, and the "chicken neck" (Chinese: ???) by Chinese soldiers due to its appearance.

A nice start to your project. I assume this will be in 15mm but I'll certainly be watching with interest as I might be able to borrow some ideas into 20mm, whenever I get round to the Far East.

Dunno whether I'm reading those charts wrong or maybe it's a feature of the rules you are using but you might want to check the organisation of those marines.

A USMC rifle squad in 1944 (F-Series TO&E) was only 13 men strong on paper, with a squad leader and three fire teams each of four men, each fire team having a BAR. The assistant BAR gunner in each team as well as the squad leader theoretically had M1 carbines.

On paper the MG squad should have double the numbers listed on that chart as each squad, serving a single gn has three ammo bearers in addition to the crew.

And this kids, is why you don't do Excel work at 23:00 hrs after a long day. Thx, I made a formatting error and this somehow duplicated by a lot. I'll get on it and edit in the correct figures. Edit: Done 10/5/2025

Looks good so far.  Looking forward to seeing your progress here, shitty record notwithstanding... ;)

I'm about done with my ETO additions.  Next trip to WW2 will likely be PTO...
