Plague Doctor for Traitor’s Toll
« on: 26 May 2025, 05:20:55 PM »
Been having a lot of fun assembling and painting the Traitor’s Toll figures, but I figured it would be fun to have one of the more sinister late medieval characters, a plague doctor.
The body and arms are from the guards sprue, with the mace cut down, and the coat lengthened with greenstuff. The head with broad brimmed hat is from the civilian sprue, with pointy visor from an Agincourt knight added, extended to the strange beak-like mask. Goggles are cut off one of the other heads, and more greenstuff added round the back to make a cowl. Quite happy with how he turned out.

That’s brilliant: an efficient mix of kitbash and minimal sculpting to create a unique mini. How are you finding GoTT?

Am I right in thinking GoTT uses descriptor words/keywords to designate the npc models (eg. Not having shoes)? If right how many keywords/categories for npc’s are there? (I wish they’d put a list up somewhere so I could see what minis in my collection will work - although I’m guessing all but the pure fighting stance warriors).

I’m guessing the guards are armed generally with swords (but the actions allow you to do none lethal attacks) - is there a provision for the guards having big sticks (3-4ft of ash or beech) as an alternative? (If not I figure I’ll proxy them as swords). What weapon options are available to guards?

Thanks (apologies excited about the idea of the game but yet to play or afford).

There are six categories for civilians. Arcane (wizards and scholars), Weaponry (any armed figure), Expensive (nobles or bankers), Tools (workers with spades, mops, picks etc), Consume (vendors with food and drink or folk consuming same), Perform (performers with musical instruments, puppets, snakes etc). There are sub categories but that is less important.
Guards can be armed, but often violence is not needed; cutting down non-violent suspects causes discontent. Sometimes ropes or chains or just an open hand are best. Lanterns and torches are useful for investigating. Ranged weapons can also be useful but you won't want more than one.
The game has a very strong narrative RPG-like element, driven by the plot cards (you will have a different selection in every game), plus a major plot, and also secret cards which come out during the game. Players are competing for glory, but cannot fight each other. They can however impede each other in various ways.
It's a fairly complex game but it is very engaging.

Thank you Steve - it’s definitely on my wish list as it’s theme really appeals and hopefully I can play solo; using it as motivation to actually paint something (of mine, other peoples minis are easy) and convert some characters.

Thank you Dean, very helpful.

It’s really open

The rules allow you to skip all the individual sub types and just use the descriptions in the six 6 entries.

Or with the plastic kits you can add multiple things to each figure so they can count for different identifications.

You do want at least 20 civilians on the table though for it to enable you to identify suspects who aren’t right over the other side of the table from your guards.

Definitely playable solo. You have a larger patrol size to play with.

That is my limiting factor, getting twenty figures painted ^___^

That plague doctor certainly fits the bill.  Very nice work.

I had to force myself to grind through them as I hate painting just to paint.

You ideally need more than twenty, as new ones come on as people get arrested. Probably about 30 or so

Especially if you have more than two players.
