Good day from Kansas
« on: 24 July 2025, 06:28:08 PM »
I have been a miniature wargame since my early teens, starting with Scruby 30mm 1806 Prussians. Made the jump to 15s in the late 70's and gamed with them until the early 2000's. Took a break due to other interests and finally came back to miniatures. As I prefer to fight the big battles, 6mm Baccus has been my drug of choice. Currently have 1864 Danes, Prussians and Austrians, and have added Saxons for 1866. Mainly play using the Bloody Big Battles (BBB) rules.

I am now working on building some Russo-Japanese War armies for play using modifications to BBB. The RJW has been a major research project for me since the early 1980s. I have played several playtest games using my 1864/1866 armies while refining the mods, the largest being the battle of Ta-shih-chiao. Hoping to have some correct RJW figures to put on the table in a month or so.

Looking for players in the Kansas City area.

Greetings!

Welcome to the LAF. Looking forwards to seeing your minis - I love 6mm and you don’t see a huge amount of it here (always shocks me that it’s not a more popular scale as it’s so practical and can look amazing) and I’m currently contemplating some tiny scale black powder chaps.

Welcome! The Russo-Japanese War is rare interest, I live in Sasebo, Japan, where Adm. Togo's fleet sortied from so we have a local tie here.

Welcome. Obviously a man of good judgement, choosing 6mm.

Thank you all for the warm welcome.

Just scrolling through this site and enjoying the variety of armies and the superb paint jobs has been a pleasure.

Having played large Napoleonic and RJW, and WWI battles with 30s, 25s, and 15s, I like the look and rules mechanisms that 6mm provide.  My days of detailed painting are past, so 6mm is a good option.

For those that like the idea of large WWI type battles, the RW offers both maneuver and trench warfare. The war is extremely well documented, although WWI brought an abrupt end to the historiography of the war. My library is mainly books and other sources published before 1914. I am currently building proper RJW armies and adapting BBB for the war.
