Well, that was a surprise  lol

I would really like to know some behind-the-scenes infos, like the thoughts and after-thoughts of the players involved here. And are the Ratmen now fully out of game, has their player lost?

I know, I have been SO busy (what with RL and the campaign - painting, GMing, etc) that I have been remiss and did not put a notes post in the video comments. But if I put something here now, I can convert it later into a pinned post on the video.

Where to start?

The skaven player's PC did die. Grieve him not, however, as the player has become a new character - the Vizconde Gismondo Giacometti who you will learn a bit about in the next video. The player thus gets to use his own Estalian and Empire figures, as well as several regiments of mine and figures I have painted to match his so that he has bigger units - turning his 6th ed designed army into one suitable for 8th ed. I love the character, but who know if anyone else will?

Meanwhile the Skaven have a new leader, being the new PC of the player who previously played Admiral Volker of the pirates. The pirates have done SO much looting that they basically dispersed, happy with their ill-gotten gains and unwilling to push their luck too far! The pirates never had supply centres, and subsisted solely on loot. Harder than that, the admiral had to pay extra supply point bribes to keep his command, his admiralcy, as well as subsitence and repairs to depleted units! It was no easy thing, but it kept him fighting all along the south coast! I presume he is enjoying his retirement, under a falsfe name!

You will hear about the new Skaven PC very soon too. He has a different way of going about things - using flesh not steel!

As for the players' thoughts on these events - the Portomaggioran player, whose PC is Lord Alessio Falconi, played the NPC Remans in this game, with strict instructions, unless the situation was absolutely dire, not to shoot at the doom bombard. The leaders believed this would likely kill everyone on the field of battle.

During the game, the player voiced his annoyance with me as a GM for allowing such unbalancing element into the campaign, far beyond anything like his Colossus. Not quite, but almost, 'strong' words. I kept reassuring him, desperately trying not to give clues that would make him play differently with information the NPC commanders did not have, but basically saying 'trust me'. 'Have I ever let the players down?' 'Have I ever wrongly costed anything?'' Just see what happens.' Etc etc.

At the end of the game, I could at last tell him that in the next story the maestro would discover the doom bombard was a fake, and obviously intended as a cheap but terrifying threat to scare enemies into submission or flight, or misdirect their efforts in battle. I said that the player and I had come up woth the scheme to try to benefit from the impressively destructive failure of the first bombrad, at barely any cost or time. (I played the NPC advisers pouring their myriad ideas into the PC's ears.)

I love what the player said next: "Well played, Padre. Well played."

I felt like a good GM in that moment. Happy days!

You should not only feel like one, you are one!

I was also wondering how much the players knew about the doom bombard, and what happens when a major leader 'bites the dust'. Thanks for the info :)

I left a similar comment on YouTube, but, great photography on this one! You managed to create a wonderful "golden hour" lighting set up with great depth on the shot from around 2:55-3:30. Excellent!

Also, very interesting to hear how the "real world" stuff goes with GM decisions, PC's passing on and new characters being generated etc. Thanks!
I have a YouTube and so can you!

Thanks Frugal, Mik and Math!

The GMing of interactions and politics is great fun. But the waiting for answers and arranging of games can be a drag!

I started at the beginning last fall and I’m gradually catching up…I’m about to view Part 77.  I have a great desire to do some sort of extensive fantasy campaign as a result of all of this, so, thanks!

(I’m still trying to get a WH1e test game put together, never having been a Warhammer player, so the special on recreating a first edition battle was outstanding!)

Sorry for giving you the 'campaign' bug.  ;D

If I was doing regular 'Oldhammer' games, I would go for 3rd edition. I loved that, and stuck with it through 4th and 5th editions, only rejoining the mainstream when 6th came out. In terms of comprehensible rules, 3rd fit together much better than 1st ed, and was better supported.

Oh, and I hope you have been enjoying the videos! (I'm guessing yes otherwise you would not have watched 76 of them!)
