Always good to see more discussion on solo games. Fir a minute I thought you missed five parsecs/leagues before seeing they were listed under fivecore.

where can you get Fear of the Dark? the link is to a facebook group and there's only a demo version available there...

EDIT - Perilous Tales is another one... in fact most of the links are to facebook groups. Rather than send folks down that route, could you actually link to the where the game is available?

While I completely understand not wanting to touch Facebook and similar, a search for "Fear of the Dark wargame" and "Perilous Tales wargame" come up with the usual places to buy them as the first responses, quicker surely than asking here?

It's imposible to make a post about Solo wargaming and not Talk about Iván Sorensen and Nordic Weasel. I played years ago 5 men in Normandy and 5 men at Kursk, and he has developed a lot of rulesets, even one that is called solo tool kit or something like that that works as a genéric solo system for any ruleset.

The last one has been Forgotten Ruins and It deals with a weird modern settings where modern soldiers fight orcs, trolls and even dragons.

Self-Promotion time.....

I have two solo-games, Under the Martian Yoke, Homer;s Heroes: Bronze Age Bad Boys[/b], Odin's Ravens: Viking Age Bad Boys[/b] and Combat! Starring Vic Murrow which are all available on the Wargame Vault.

I also made solo rules for Osprey's Men of Bronze/Wars of the Republic that can be found in the The Ionian Revolt supplement also on the wargame vault.  You need a copy of one of those core rulebooks to play solo though.

Wait a minute... You're the person behind the Blood and Spectacle blog?!?!?

Your blog is a reference in the world of wargame and RPG designers.

I don't even know how many times I've read the posts on your blog about creation and design, or just talking about wargames, solo or not.

What I didn't know was the number of games created, I'm looking at the list on the blog and it's really impressive.

It's more than 10 years of posts on that blog, and they're not just AARs, reviews or generic posts about wargames... there are posts about wargame creation and development that are incredible.

Thank you so much for such an enormous and exhaustive work!!

Thanks, you are making me blush.

Sometimes I have more to say on that topic than other days.  I am glad to read that the blog is appreciated.  That helps drive me.

There is now the whole series of little solo games/rules that began with the Dominion of the Spear but now cover many periods. Simple fast games in 10 minutes!

Excellent stuff. Many thanks. I occasionally play a game with my sons, but as an introvert working with people all day, being on my own for a game can be a positive advantage...

I particularly like the furry companion.

Earlier this year a free set of rules called Zombie RV got a lot of love on the Post-Apocalyptic board. I played through the mini-campaign that is included and I had one of the best solo gaming experiences I’ve ever had. I’m not good with very complicated rules and these are definitely not that. They’re very simple, playable and enjoyable and leave plenty of scope to develop character and setting detail which is what I enjoy.

Available from here:

If you’re interested, here’s a link to my AARs of the games I played:

Thank-you for posting this.

The Osprey Book, The Men Who Would Be Kings, written by Daniel Mersey includes a solo play option.
I have not tried to play it but it reads well.

Ah yes, Mr. Babbage. He's a very considerate fellow.

And remember, when playing a game of colonization "Imperial" is the preferred system of measurement to use!

And of course its "Colonisation" in the proper Queens English  ;) :D lol - Sorry Sakuragi Miniatures but I could not resist  :D

But he is a most considerate imperial figure  :)
