Zombie RV in - Borsetshire? Trailer Trash - The Finale
« on: 10 February 2025, 02:38:57 PM »
Borsetshire. 2020 and the world is hit with a  mystery virus.

Tristram Pitt-Bulstrode (great grandson of Sir Rufus Pitt-Bulstrode who played a major player in Civil War actions in Borsetshire in the mid-thirties) and his house guests, Berenice Snapcase and Wing Commander Jon “Vaggers” Vagabong, along with Tristram’s boyhood friend and one time poacher, William Grundy, are caught out during an off-grid hunting expedition in the wilds of Borsetshire, seeking to reduce the wild boar population that has been troubling Tristan’s tenants.. They return to find mayhem…!

From the left: Berenice Snapcase; Tristram Pitt-Bulstrode; Will Grundy; Wing Commander Vagabond

Tristram runs an Adventure Holiday company; Berenice has represented GB in pistol shooting and Wingco Vaggers has seen active serve at various “trouble spots”. William is a poacher. As a group, they have skills that give them a chance to survive the calamity that has struck the world.

Having seen zombie films, they immediately know what they’re up against even though they don’t know what has caused the disaster. They’re equipped for hunting and sleeping out so, rather than risk trying to get back to Tristram’s place, they decide to start scavenging immediately. Tristram’s old Range Rover is big enough for them to use as a very basic camper van once they’ve ripped out all the seats apart from the driver’s.

They soon come to an apparently abandoned farm. Tristram prefers to look for something more promising while Wingco Vaggers wants to grab what they can while they can. The dispute becomes heated but the decision is made for them when they hit a pothole and the Rover’s front near-side tyre bursts.

They all jump out of the car but Tristram scoots along the road towards the farm - he wants to distance himself from Vaggers before their row gets more serious. The other three have spotted a group of zombies in the field by the house and start shooting. The Wingco manages to down one but the others suffer nothing more than being forced back briefly before surging towards the survivors.

"Blimey," says Will, "Looks like a hen party on the pull."
" Looks like a hen party that’s gone very, very wrong", mutters Berenice as she levels her pistol.

To be continued

Very well.  I suppose we'll just have to wait for more news of this incident.

Berenice looks very stern, a chip off the old Snapcase marble block for sure. I don't recognise the figure, is it one of the Desperate Dames from Bob Murch?

Great start just one question about Will Grundy, why does he look like the opening bat for Ambridge Village C C.?

It’s ready to go but I have to concentrate on today’s epic with Mad Lord Snapcase

She looks like Crooked Dice to me?
Yes -that’s correct

yep, along with the Doug McClure...
He may be Doug McClure to you but to me, he is undoubtedly Tristram Pitt-Bulstrode :D

The rest of the report follows after I’ve taken the dog out then joined Snapcase in a bid to rid the world of more zombies.

Thanks for your interest.

Bernice definitely looks to be the stern but dependable type. Looking forward to the further adventures of this resourceful group after the dog has had his walk.

My posting time got taken up playing in today’s game of Last of the Summer Wine with Mad Lord Snapcase. So I’m aiming for tomorrow (after the dog walk, of course. Incidentally, she’s very upset at being misgendered ;) ).

Loving the start of this adventure.
Thanks - just about to finish the report.

I'm assuming this is solo play?
Yes, that’s correct.

Ok - continuing the Report:

The group shape up as follows: Tristram has a rifle and a wooden mallet; Berenice has a pistol; Wing Commander Vagabond has a shotgun and a tyre wrench; Will Grundy has a cricket bat. He also carries his old shotgun which unfortunately was badly damaged during the boar hunting. He keeps it close in the hope he can find an abandoned workshop where he can repair it. Currently, it is useless.

The zombies close on Wingco Vaggers and he’s knocked to the floor (I made a mistake here by allowing the zombies to attack - they’d used both actions in getting into contact, a bum call for the Wingco). Berenice has more success. She splatters one zed and forces another back. Will wades in wielding his bat and batters one of the zombies attacking the Wingco. That’s another zed who won’t be any more trouble.

Meanwhile Tristram has reached the farmhouse but before attempting to enter, he spots the Wingco on the floor and looses of a shot at his attacker; a generous act considering their recent dispute. He pays dearly for his altruism - he’s out of ammo. His rifle makes a useless click and nothing more.

In the distance, there’s a zombie in the fields with no line of sight to any survivors and too far away to hear any noise from them. However, some sheep are grazing peacefully nearby. They are within sight……..

They’re warm-blooded and woolly - what zombie could resist?

Despite Will’s success,, all is not going smoothly. Berenice is wounded by a vicious left handed swipe from her opponent. Will decides it’s time to try and draw off some of the zombies and if possible, search for useful loot. He heads off towards the house, hoping the Wingco and Berenice can handle the zombies swarming round them. He shoves an attacking zombie out of the way and moves. The Wingco is back on his feet and blasts a tightly packed bunch of zombies. Disaster - he hears the dreaded click signifying that he’s out of ammo. Berenice manages to push the zombie attacking her back for a brief respite.

Over at the farmhouse, Tristram kicks open the door and kills a zombie that opposes him in the doorway. But there are two more in the house and one of them manages to wound him.

this is where I realise that the rather rough and ready bracing I did to this house some years ago is revealed to the whole world

Berenice is once again attacked by two but they fail to land a blow on her.

Wingco is also attacked by two and he also escapes being hit. They’re swarming him but can’t all get at him because of some large tree stumps he’s dodging behind. Further away, another four zombies spawn, one of which appears particularly nasty. Berenice and the Wingco are on their own now Will has moved off.

Although slightly wounded, Tristram is still full of fight (rolls a 6 to gain an extra action). He launches a frenzied attack on the zombies in the room and his mallet makes short work of the loathsome undead.

Berenice, however, can only push a zombie back - temporary breathing space. Wingco Vaggers reloads. Then it’s back to the Zombies who swarm round their targets.

Will has drawn the newly spawned horrors away from the Wingco and Berenice - he’s between an old tractor and a fence so can only be attacked by one zombie at a time. Despite weight of numbers, the zeds score no hits. However, another four spawn and look round for targets.

Having despatched three zombies in the house, Tristram roots round for anything useful and is delighted to find a shotgun. Berenice is in a desperate situation and can’t seem to land a blow on her opponents. The Wingco begins to think tactically. Noting the zombies inability to climb over the tree stumps, he decides to get back over the wall. From there, he hopes to blast the monstrous hordes with impunity.

Will smashes another zombie with his bat then hops over the fence and moves towards the house. As he does this, a dreadful cry of anguish alerts him to the fact that Berenice has been killed. Things are not going well. To make matters worse, another four zombies have spawned, and once again, one of them looks especially nasty.

Tristram leaves the house by the back door intending to search the greenhouse. Will has been chased by a group of zombies and one of the very nasty looking ones is faster than the others and has caught him up. In one fluid motion, Will turns and brains the brainless hulk before darting into the house where he finds the aftermath of Tristram’s fight.

From his secure position behind the wall, the Wingco fires a blast into the swarming zombies but only manages to kill one.

Most of the zombies swarm the Wingco, attracted by the noise of his shot.  Those in front of him can’t get over the wall but a group that chased Will now turn to seek the origin of the shooting. They lurch on to the road, thus outflanking the wall.

Between the house and the greenhouse, a lone zombie spots Tristram but can’t quit reach him. And yet more zombies are spawned.

Meanwhile, away from the murder and mayhem, the lone zombie is about to embrace another sheep. Hang on, weren’t there 3 before…?
Oh no…..!

Seeing Tristram about to be attacked, Will rushes out of the back door and attacks the zombie but this time, his trusty bat lets him down.

With Will guarding his back, Tristram enters the greenhouse, to be confronted by five zeds…! Luckily, only one can get at him at a time.

The Wingco turns to face the zombies coming at him down the road and kills one. Two more stumble down the road towards him.

And in the distance? I can’t bear it…!

Will is attacked by the zombie he failed to hit, luckily the zombie is equally unsuccessful. The last group to spawn hear the noise of the scuffle and move towards Will. Tristram is attacked by the one zombie that can get at him and - disaster. He is struck down and killed.…!

The Wingco is somewhat unnerved to see a zombified Berenice snarling at him from over the wall. Taken in conjunction with the zombies coming at him down the road, he decides the game is up and jumps in the Rover. Simultaneously, Will breaks off contact without being hit and dashes through the house to the road.

The Wingco sees him and drives down on the wheel rim, splattering the zombies on the road as he does, and picks him up. Will gasps out the news of Tristram’s awful fate and the Wingco confirms that Berenice has suffered the same demise.

The Range Rover is making a hideous noise. The punctured tyre is ripped to shreds and the bare wheel is in contact with the road. The Wingco manages to coax the vehicle along until they are out of sight and sound of the zombies. The two survivors hastily fit the spare wheel and Will checks the steering and drive shaft - there doesn’t appear to be any major damage, the only good news they’ve had today.

They look at each other. "Shit" says Will. The Wingco nods in agreement……

GAME OVER

Summary: Well, that didn’t go well. Two characters, a pistol, a rifle and a shotgun - all lost. I was certainly too gung-ho when I should have been more sneaky. Next time, less noise and keep out of line of sight where possible. And don’t totally rely on firearms, they let me down repeatedly in this game.

I could start from scratch with a new team but I prefer to build a narrative if possible so I’ll stick with Will and the Wingco, recruit a couple of "liabilities" and see if we can get more success in the next encounter.

Looking forward to exploring The Cabin in the Woods already.

Thanks for reading

Thanks Doug, great report.

Just seen Sunjester had similar troubles in his Wild West RV game; looks like sneaky might be the way to play, similar to County Road Z.

Yes - we got a bit sneakier in yesterday’s Last of the Summer Wine which Mad Lord Snapcase will be reporting on soon. There’s also a few tweaks we’ve made which we hope will improve the game a touch.
