Look at Crimea ranges in winter uniforms, or Indian mutiny possibly.

Edit. Seem to remember seeing some Crimean figures in a mixture of rags but can't find them now

What sort of companies would those be?
I'm doing 28mm by the way!

I have looked at some of the Black Tree Zulu war stuff, some of it looks quite suitably ragged.  :)
It's also dead cheap too.  :D

The only 'ragged' troops I can think of off hand would be some of the confederate types (Might be worth trying redoubt, as they've got a seperatre head system so it might make conversions easier) and maybe try mixing in some Boers, but painted in a semi-uniform way?

If you want to add some renagade colonial units, there are some mahadists in ragged (egyptian?) uniforms in the redoubt range, and I think some from the perries too. There are also the Foundry semi-uniform askari's for a similar sort of thing.

I will be using mostly civilian sailors for my anrchist international, Brigade and Pulp ranges

so there will be some kind of uniformity, as well as uniformed "regular" troops
all set to fit into VSF and Pulp

Those sound perfect.

When I get down to this project, I will have a look at it. First on the list is a Brit and a Prussian army.
Following that I will do this Anarchist project with leftovers and what I find over the time I spend making the other forces...
