Matte medium for acrylics?
« on: 31 May 2010, 07:18:13 AM »
Some of my older paints have a tendency to dry to a semi-gloss finish that i do not like very much. Very annoying to highlight a glossy basecoat with matt highlights....

Sometimes it is because the matte medium has settled on the bottom, and then it can be remedied by poking it loose anfd then shaking the bottle vigorously for a couple of minutes, but other times the matte medium seem to have vanished (or having been too thinned by repeted additions of water).

Does someone make a good matte medium to use for acrylic hobby paints?
Ask at the LAF, and answer shall thy be given!

I always have a bottle of W&N or Daler Rowney on the go. Tamiya Flat Base is good too but very potent and you only need a tiny amount.

Thanks - I'll see what I can find.

Windsor and Newton I think my local stores should carry (they do have their large acrylics).

Daler Rowney I have never heard of (as so many other things that never reach the shelves in this - hobby-wise - god forsaken country...).

I haven't found a local supplyer of Tamiya paints, yet - still searching...

The art supply ones used come in glass bottles but it looks like they have changed to plastic, usually displayed with the gum arabic and masking fluids etc.
