Still there's always the museum scale pieces I guess. I'm not sure how big they are 4-5 inches tall maybe.
I don't think they are quite that big. Some people on the Battletech boards do 1/200 scale games and I'm sure the museum stuff gets used for that.

This is a good thread using the Clicky Mechs, the bloke has done some great paintjobs. Well worth having a poke around looking for large scale stuff.

This is just such an impressive force. I wish I had one of the old Warhammer, Marauder or my favorite Rifleman. Just to be precise the scale is N-Gauge (1/160), which is 10mm and not 15mm. 15mm vehicles are just way to big. 1/3 bigger is getting noticed and I tried with my Old Crow 15mm compared to the Clicky Mechs.

And it seems 10mm is a perfect size for Mechs, since CAV and Heavy Gear are also in 10mm.

Okay, time to play catch-up...

The links for the papercraft stuff:

Viper, I have the same with the regular mini's. Nice, but tiny. They just don't scream "Big Stompy Roboy" to me.
The Museum scale mini's are about 3" tall, so comparable with the clicky mechs I think. The models I use are nearly twice that size.
Playing with 28mm scaled mechs would be great, but you'd need quite a bit of area to play in.
Still, there are people going even bigger: http://www.in2my.net/mechnut/ and http://www.eagletransporter.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2558 (I found his homesite a while back, but the PC crashed before I could bookmark...  >:()

Lostpict: Nice game! Looks good. And pretty close to the approach I was thinking about. No big mobs of mechs, but just a few supported/opposed by infantry and vehicles.

Haven't had time to do more on these mechs, but I should be able to get some paint on this sunday.

My brace of 'Robotech / Exo Squad' figures arrived today all in their 3" glory (proper measurements to follow as it's now late). Am quite chuffed with them even if I fear I may upset collectors by... painting them!

Incidentally can anyone help me with the size of the DP9 Sagittarius Strider (see link for piccys) http://homebrewgamer.blogspot.com/2009/12/sagittarius-strider-from-dp9.html I think it might make a good substitute mech.

edit... The Robotech / Exo Squad ones I have are about 3" tall. Are the dark age ones really that size???

Wish I'd found one of the Joyride madcats, I still think it would of been too big for 1/72 gaming though. Nice setup

The Base is a 60mm-Base and the size should just as high as a small Mech like the DA Osiris. It's not as big as a Zeus any other heavy Mech. Normally I put my DA Mechs on 50mm Bases. This are no accurate dates, but still I hope it helps anyway.
