Need some advise on Grymn
« on: May 28, 2010, 12:55:27 AM »
I am trying to get together a small squad of dwarf SWAT. (try saying that while your drunk)
its to playtest cyberslums, which was recruiting for play testers here as well.

Anyhow, I find myself in need of some modern looking swat dwarfs, but I am not sure what kits I would need to get everything I need. I can do quite some converting should it be necessary, but I am mainly looking for the cheapest easiest way to get everything.

all dwarfs should be wearing armour, technically its flak armour, but grymn will do.

1 officer, axe shotgun and large pistol

5 warriors, all axes mixed firearms, 2 SMG, 1 small pistol (preferably different from the officers one) 1 shotgun, and one assault rife, technically it should be a M16, but I think something that fits in with the rest would be better.

Should some packs land me with spare dwarfs and weapons that should be useful, but not necessary.

So any advice, I have been pusling wiht the options on the hassle-free site, but can come up with a good solution.

I think the closest your gonna find is Hasslefree's Grymm, most other space dwarfs seem to be copys of the Evil Empires most famous dead race. (I however maybe and probably is wrong)

The Hasslefree are lovely figures but I find them too small. I think I would go with the Olley ones if it was me.

If we are voting...

 ;)

Though I like Bob's stuff too.

Grymn are small, I admit.  But the pleasure gained from painting them is, er...large.   :)

Considering the weapons I will need the grymn would be a lot easier then the olley ones, since then I would probably end up buying hasslefree weapons to convert them anyway. But even if I go form grymn i cant figure out which ones would be best to get, since I want them with similar weapons I will probably en up buying 5 conversion packs for the axes.

I would recommend Grymn.  The conversion packs are a bit of a pain (because they don't have multiples of the same weapons...especially close combat Grymn) but they are quality and work well.

For SWAT troops, I would recommend the Close Combat troops because they would be the easiest to convert with axes.

I have examples of CC Weapon conversions here (I used swords instead):

As you will have seen from the above pix, I have done a lot of head-swaps so if you decide to go with the bare-headed CC troops, it will be simple to add whatever helmets you require.

If you want all of the troops to have uniform equipment, you may need to swap a few heads but I'm sure there is plenty in the range for all of the options you need (with a little tweaking).

If you need any help with selections...I will be happy to help :) ...I am a bit of a Grymn fan, you see? :
