I've picked up several of the THW rule sets, including Nuts (WW2) and Warrior Heroes (Fantasy Army). If you disregard some of the individual characteristics used in Nuts, and play at the base/team level instead of individual, it works just fine. The WH rules are written just this way in fact, so comparing the two gives a good feel for how and what to convert.
That said, I still don't see them adapting well to larger than a battalion level game, unless you're going to use a scaling ratio of some sort. There are a lot of support options you'd probably want at that level that aren't there. Still, they may provide a good jumping-off point.
I've not gamed THW extensively, but I've enjoyed the bit I've done so far.
